The bakers from this season have remained friends, by the way. They try to get together at least once a year, including at Iain and Martha's weddings. It's a special group and I'm happy they found such strong friendships.
She's also the oldest winner in the show's history and turned her win into a second career as an author and social media influence, focusing on a mix of baking and environmentally friendly cleaning. I'm a big fan.
Luis said she was the right choice and it's tough to disagree. She didn't quite reach the same highs as Richard or Luis, but she's the rare baker who never had a complete disaster on the show. If you're watching for the first time, her victory sneaks up on you, but it's easy to see why she won.
Very basic snare and hi-hat music while the bakers worked. It's a bold choice. Rather than manufacturing the tension, it lets the bakers do that and just amplifies what was already there.
With the party going outside, the interviewed some of the other bakers on who they thought was going to win. Diana predicted a win for Nancy, Chetna picked Luis, and Martha picked Richard.
And we're up to the weepy videos of the bakers' families. Richard's wife expressed how proud she was of him and Nancy was cooking with her grandkids. It also had a rare appearance of Him Indoors.
Given Nancy's subsequent career as a social media influencer, it's a bit odd seeing her kitchen here.
Richard is making pain au lait for his viennoiserie challenge. Paul is concerned that they're way too simple for the final, but Richard just wanted to make a dish he loved.
And we're up to the final with Richard, Luis, and Nancy. All three of them would have been deserving winners and the standard was very, very high that year.
And that's FIVE star baker awards for Richard. That's a record that basically still stands. Jasmine matched him this year, but nobody has been able to best it.
Points off for Mary though. She's shocked that a builder could do such delicate work in baking. British classism at its finest.
