Btw I'm sorry if I sound really negative. I actually meant to be encouraging - you're gonna make this work (the spaying, healing etc) even if she hates the crate! I've had lots of dogs throughout the years and no crates for them. (I also come from a very different culture re dogs)

Also, shutting the dog in there and let them "whine it out" DEFINITELY only teaches them learnt helplessness about the crate, I'm gonna shut you in there when I like and there's nothing you can do about it so no use protesting. Saying it makes them feel safe is absurd!

... for post-surgery rest or similar, it's usually enough to block options for jumping up and down on beds/couches if they're so inclined, take only short walks for peeing, etc ... they usually don't need to be completely locked up to heal.

But they can choose their own safe spaces. We have one dog who likes to lie under a chair in the bedroom, where we often throw sweaters and trousers so it's like a little tent. Or between the couch and wall in the living room. And it's safer to control whether you stay or leave.

I wouldn't wanna be locked up in a crate either if I was a dog. It sucks if there are medical reasons why crating would be good, but - they wanna have freedom of movement, and they wanna be with the rest of the family when people are home. This is NATURAL and NORMAL, not bc you did wrong somehow.

Beach dogs - Laban, Kirk and Spock.

I do pretty careful planning. I often do drastic changes and rewrites - but then I make NEW plans. If I just "pants away" the whole thing quickly crumbles.
Still, I don't use any of the above. I just think about what I want the story to contain and how I can make that work.

Tröttaste skämtet varje år i Nobeltider: Folk som ironiskt postar "ÄNTLIGEN" om litteraturpriset för att det gick till nån de aldrig hört talas om och det blev inte Dan Brown eller postumt till Astrid Lindgren i år heller.
