Can’t unsee. If I were skilled in routing PCBs I would immediately design a replacement PCB with the RAM in the right place
CL-GD5422X gang here, as well! Very fast card. I also have a PCB for a Trio64 VLB - it was made by a Vogons member. It’s likely the fastest card ever made for VLB, but AFAIR none were produced as the VLB marked had already dried up by then.
Yes, the PCX2. I am mainly interested in the SGL-supported games. The Kyros are D3D only, AFAIK. While technically interesting, they don’t offer anything exclusive to them
I am a big fan myself of VLB, I also have a 486 motherboard with PCI slots, but decided to go with VLB. Very happy I did. It feels very “DOS-y” and also true to what the 486 was. Duke Nukem 3D and Doom fly on it
Same here, kinda gave each anime its own “personality” on top of the anime itself. I remember insisting on downloading subs from specific groups (Aone and ANBU come to mind) because I liked their “style”. Good times.
Welp, got PowerVR mixed up with Permedia. It’s the former that I really wanted - the latter would mostly be a curio, I don’t think I would ever use it much.
Classic. They don’t bother taking the time to do it properly because that means 1) more boards recapped in the same time 2) a returning customer!1!1! 💰💰💰.

Back when I had more free time I would usually (properly) recap boards for free for anyone in my country. It was my way of “fighting” these guys
Sadly I got loads of boards from “professional sellers” on eBay in worse condition than this (back when you could actually afford them). Literally the caps were hanging for their life (some were actually flapping around) with just a smattering of cold solder
Always wanted one but they are unobtainable. BTW YouTube link is not working here
This interests me - I have a boatload of Virge and Trio cards - including MY ORIGINAL ONE from 1997! One of the few retro things I have that survived. Sigh. My poor Voodoo Banshee…
PROFESSIONALLY RECAPPED!1!1!1! $1500

The Amiga community is being bled dry as all kind of scalpers jumped to what is objectively a very wealthy community (I wonder what attracts all the rich people to the Amiga?). Stuff like this would’ve been unthinkable just a few years ago.
Dang me and my friends were talking about this just some days ago. Stuff like this keeps haunting you at the most random times
About driver support: it’s pretty much the same everywhere as it comes from the kernel, not the distro. The only thing that changes between distros is how lenient they are in allowing drivers out of the box with closed source in them. Some disallow them entirely (Debian) while others are more open
I would just go with Debian/Ubuntu or Arch if you feel adventurous. We used Fedora as our servers were CentOS based so it made sense back then to keep things consistent. After the CentOS thing I switched to Ubuntu for servers and macOS for clients. Everyone has been pretty happy these years
Used Fedora for years. These days they kinda turned evil after the CentOS debacle some years ago and more recently the AI contribution thing. Also it was definitely less supported for end-user stuff than Ubuntu (you could find lots of things in deb but not rpm) as it has its roots in servers (RHEL)
I really enjoy the lightweight OS (based on Linux) and the reduced weight of the unit itself. Usually systems powerful enough to run Steam also weight several kilograms. No way I am ever using a Steam Deck while in bed - that thing is MASSIVE. Btw the RG35XX/H *does* run Dolphin, albeit slowly
While WSL is certainly usable, I have had trouble with it in the past, because of the above mentioned issues. Also sometimes you have to recur to MSYS2 and the like which really sours the entire experience. Clearly WSL is just an afterthought to stop the fleeing devs from switching to Linux or macOS
Most dev tools are clearly developed for macOS first (you can see it in most tutorials) as it is the modern developer’s OS of choice (for good reason). You can either hackintosh your way to it (used it for a good while) or get a Mac Mini M4 which is a literal powerhouse for very little money.s
As someone who has worked for dev stuff with all three main OSes extensively, you can’t go wrong with macOS. The terminal is a first-class citizen there and the POSIX compatibility of the OS and file system ensures that almost everything that works on Linux works on macOS too.
There’s a new update out for the CFW I use, I wonder if there’s any performance upgrade for N64. Anyway I think it needs just a bit more “oomph”, there’s some slightly more expensive handhelds that would run it just fine. I’m not a big N64 player so it’s was acceptable to me (can’t complain for 60€)
If you use the standalone Mupen64 emulator, you can get full 60fps in Snowboard Kids but with less graphical fidelity. Bomberman64 doesn’t show a lot of stuff, instead, though. Lastly, didn’t try Goldeneye with the standalone emulator so I am not sure how it fares there
So, Bomberman 64’s intro has no evident graphical errors, but sometimes it stutters. Same goes for Goldeneye 64 and Snowboard Kids. No glitches but framerate hovers around 45-55 fps. That’s with the Retroarch-based core.
I was using my hacked Switch 1 as my Retroarch handheld before, but it’s a little too fragile and expensive as an everyday carry. My RG35XX/H is cheap enough that even if I were to lose it or damage it I wouldn’t lose sleep over it (while I would do so for my Switch)
*accurate fullspeed GBA.
I really want an edit button Bluesky, dammit
PSP won’t work well on it because of its 4:3 screen, but if you really want PSP emulation there are alternatives with a 16:9 screen with similar price points and performance. I went with the RG35XX/H because of its small size and it comes with me almost everywhere
