All of the things I thought about Keyonte George were wrong and I'm sorry I thought them. I am team Keyonte. That dude has put in a TON of work.
This is an internment camp. There is not another way to describe it. It is reprehensible and shameful.

This is a five alarm fire. I don’t believe we even have our collective heads around how bad this will be.
Trump already canceled 94 million pounds of aid for food banks AND cut $186 billion in SNAP funding in his Big Ugly law.

Now he refuses to fund Nov. SNAP benefits for 42 million Americans. Even before the shutdown, feeding hungry families wasn't a priority for Trump.

Many of you, I know, receive a lot of national news, but care a lot about local. You also hate paywalls.

If that's you read this detailed story. "The Salt Lake Tribune, preparing to drop its paywall, launches a free, monthly print newspaper for Southern Utah."

I'm now entering my 2nd cycle of "non-tracking." I have simply never been able to glean any noticeable benefits from the constant datafication of my behavior (e.g. activity, food tracking, stress, sleep, whatever else). and it causes me stress. I can't imagine going back to that stuff. Hello Timex!
As I was saying…

CCS in Ogden says they need help, so let’s help. Here’s the article from KSL as of this evening. I’m going to post links to their list of needs as well as to my Venmo. If you want to send money to me, I will happily go shopping this week for items on their list and conduct a drop-off.

To my Montana friends, here are a couple of great options for food bank cash donations. Things are already dicey in terms of food security. The cessation of SNAP benefits this week will cause 1 and 4 children to become food insecure.

SNAP benefits are about to lapse because of the shutdown. Reminders:
1. About 1 in 2 children will receive SNAP benefits at some point and 1 in 4 children are receiving benefits in a given month.
2. Trump is already planning to cut SNAP in other ways.

I am still looking for others who are working to help Utah, Montana and Kansas join the Governors Public Health Alliance. If you have information or are working on this in these state's I'd love to help!

Yeah… there’s functionally no way to replace the dollars, but replacing the leadership and decision making is possible (though even that is hard). It’s gonna be rough, but also an opportunity to build better things that are less brittle.
States are going to need to step into this void. It’s suboptimal and short term while we build something better, but it’s not nothing.
NEW: The entire staff supporting ACIP was laid off, and most working groups haven't met in months.

That means the US may not make routine vaccine recommendations for more than half of children in 2026, and it could halt new vaccines in the pipeline. My latest:

This week, things are going to get harder in communities across the country. When SNAP benefits end, approximately 1 in 4 children will begin to go hungry. You can help by giving to your local food bank.

In Utah, please consider giving to the Utah Food Bank.
