I spent so many years entranced by pervasive & ubiquitous computing. Ambient capabilities, mobile compute, ambient mobile agents!

It's wild how fixed most computing is. Even cloud compute still anchors out to some data-centers somewhere.

I have been wondering again what we might see like Coral.

Interestingly the Coral NPU is listed as being 0.5TOps (less!), but at much lower power.

4 years of Coral. 4 TOp/s for 2w. It seems like it's still the one? I wonder if there'll ever be a competitor. It seems like the #NPU craze is in full swing, is onboard on chips big and small, so the dedicated add-in feels semi-unlikely. developers.googleblog.com/en/introduci...

Seems like Synaptics is just one implementation.

Kinda weird how they say the Matrix Extension is in development, yet Synaptics already is announcing chips??

Ride or die, and by ride, we all mean getting damned good at Linux.

Got one on my car too. Little afraid of knowing whether the links are legit.

Absolutely pathetic. Sounds incredibly unsafe.

Lower lower JD! Lead us lower! America cries for hell, and you are the hound to lead us there!

All my George Washington blogger homies!

Congrats! Amazing launch!! What an excellent excellent collab. Wishing ya'll the best!

I was a little afraid that the pressure to make good hardware was really tapering off, but the need for throughput has gone up and up and up.

The wins from being able to buy last gen still good hardware cheap-ish in an evolving competitive market far outweigh the once-off fire sale.
jauntywk.bsky.social
Sorry but the aftermath of the AI winter doesn't entice me. I don't think we'll be swimming in cheap GPUs. HyperScalers are still gonna own & keep most of it. And the hardware world will collapse, and we'll be sad sad sad.

Technical blogging is alive & well.

And amazing improvements, at home & ecosystem wide! Tip of the hat to @kentonvarda.com .

Better than yesterday's 0 range 4xe, that's for sure.
jauntywk.bsky.social
100%!

And I have *so* much hope here. It's daunting to wade into serving. But so many folks do already!

And its so early in the timeline, so little such scrappy attempts to operationalize computing aimed at anything other than industry! The situation will improve!

This is hugely hopeful to me, that the abundant computing in the world will be something that some day everyday people don't need to be so afraid of,

That operationalization will advance & be better able to communicate itself,

Trump is destroying U.S. cybersecurity defenses after the Chinese just successfully conducted one of the biggest and most successful hacks on U.S. telecom infrastructure in history

Trumpism is indistinguishable from a foreign attack

worse, because of hollow faith and patriotism rhetoric

The Trump admin is laying off nearly 200 CISA employees & forcing dozens more to take new jobs at other agencies (sometimes across the country) or quit.

Morale & productivity are sinking at the already-depleted agency, further jeopardizing US cybersecurity.

My story w/ new details: bit.ly/3KLoptn
Layoffs, reassignments further deplete CISA
Some CISA staffers have been pushed out, while others are being told to move across the country for jobs outside their skill sets.

(Gracious only knows how and where the moral technical spiritual cause finds ground to become a supportive economic force again. Andrew's economic analysis thread speaks to me, terrifies me.)

But trying to swing wide the doors of possibility, excite people, is hard. Lots of interesting works but putting user in loop tbd

Showing multiple lexicons/
types of content is I think a huge shared interest.

I feel like there's a more generalizable case of what I really want: a modular, pluggable, extensible client.

Technically, BlueSky / atproto feels well positioned, where benefit from the freedom of control of your online systems, meets not needing to host yourself.

The #MalleableSoftware folk I think are onto something here, that it's not just manufactured product to lever open the future, but open ended experiences.

Amplifying / augmenting will, engendering the sense of exploration & possibility.

It's really hard to see what the way forward is. Because imo the new baseline for software is always available, connected systems. How open source can meaningfully deliver that to the world, who doesn't necessarily want to run their own services, is a large question.
jauntywk.bsky.social
The critique that open source grew to serve industry but not users resounds with me. Open source has lost its way as a meaningful spiritual beacon by becoming something mostly for developers.

More like an extension that works everywhere. I want to use this everywhere, on all topics, not just where sitemasters opt for such things.
