Born in the 60s, grew up in the 80s. Redundant bookseller (still bitter), work in a school now. Notts based. I mostly like books and music.

Looking forward to it, see you there
I saw The Loft earlier this year and they were fantastic. Looking forward to seeing them again tomorrow with The Wedding Present as I am also doing 1985/6
Also surprised and disappointed that 80s guitar band The Waltones did not for once and all explain Ophelia's death and the ambiguities of Hamlet's behaviour
As they say, late to this, but I wanted to read the book before the review. So just to say that Ian P has been one of my favourite music writers since the 80s NME days and @jonathancoe.bsky.social a favourite novelist since What a Carve Up Neither disappoint here.Lovely review of a fantastic book
‘Ian Penman is perhaps the first person to make a point of placing Erik Satie’s humour in context, and to locate him in a tradition which includes not only Rabelais and Spike Milligan but also the likes of Ken Dodd and Les Dawson.’

I've got Busman's Honeymoon you are welcome to if you can cover the postage. I probably won't read it again, just keeping it for the sake of completism!
Thanks, i think it was 2000, but just remember being so surprised they were here!
I can't find any evidence online so can't say when it was, but it wàs at Nottingham University and they were supported by Appendix Out which says something about the mix of musics around at that time.
Really enjoyed this piece. We were lucky enough to see Rachel's doing Music for Egon Schieie live, and I love the early records in particular
And also possibly that people think that the most important thing here is 'drama' on 'social media' of any kind
By giving him an omnibus in the Blandings list it's like they spun him off from the Blandings universe like a minor super hero or something
Is Uncle Dynamite the same person? I haven't read it I don't think but my Uncle Fred has them both in the Blandings list, as well as an omnibus
Sorry to have to go all toilet humour but here they would either throw it over the side gate or leave it on the doorstep and take a photo...
I really enjoyed this. Partly for S L explaining to MP that he (MP) does actually have an obligation to do his job properly, but mostly because it reminded me that I don't listen to enough Derek Bailey
Great Lives:
Towards the end Stewart Lee explains to Mathew Parris why Parris is an ignorant buffoon (my words, not Stew's). Priceless.

I once bought a book in Oxfam in Sherwood and brought it home, telling my wife that I had wanted to read it for ages. After a few pages I realised that not only had I read it, I had them donated it to Oxfam in Sherwood
Thank you for sharing, these are all great but, as you say, Song to the Siren is just remarkable. Goosepimples!
I would suggest EM Delafield's Provincial Lady in Wartime. The first book in the series is definitely the best but they are all worth a read and this should tick some of your boxes?
Strongly recommend this if you haven't read it. Lots on Joe Meek
It's been a long time but my memory is 'unpleasant older bloke who is presumably a stand-in for Williams gets it on with a younger fantasy figure. In 'beautiful prose''
Sorry, just seen Stoner comments below...
Any thoughts on Stoner? I hated it
