I am a left- leaning academic with a background in international politics who's trying to make sense of what looks like a fundamental shift in the world order.

Well, why not let him (I assume it's a him) to close shops altogether?
Indeed! The more difficult issue is that cooperation internationally will also be needed for effective implementation. So, it's multilayered and unfortunately quite complex... still it needs to be done
I'm sure it's more difficult to go after those with more resources. However, as far as I understand it there are many legal loopholes that can be dealt with to at least reduce the rich's ability to fleece us all. And not much seems to be done about that
If so, it'll be just another demonstration of how against the idea of equality before the law, in fact the law works for some; those with the deep pockets. While the rest of us are disadvantaged. This is not how I understand equality
My key concern with something like this is whether again the law will be used to control the little people, while those who can afford to not pay taxes using the legal loopholes remain untouched.
This was my thinking as well. That that's just another way to control us.
Because otherwise the greediest will be less able to satisfy their greed. And a vicious circle starts...
Thank you for this refreshing take! How can we try to push this narrative further? Are any of the emerging forces on the Left likely to be receptive to spreading it?
Brilliant post! Exposed so much of what's wrong with our leadership, shows that an alternative is possible, and by doing so demonstrates the ideological underpinning of what we're constantly told. Keep going, Richard!
Yes, indeed! So much for equal value of human life...
But then presumably it's all going according to plan, no? As those in power would like it to
For how long will it remain a 1st world country, though?
I doubt all of them are stupid and racist. And I think through talking to them we'll be able to identify a lot of common ground. We can try to use it to build on it, thus resisting the divide and rule strategy, which in the end works only for Faragw and his financial backers
Well, it's really difficult to know which is the more correct reading. However, I think we'll achieve much better result if we reach out to such people and to listen and understand their point of view
In my view that's a damning indictment to our political system
Although they're totally shambles they may well come on top at the next election because people are crying out for change and at the moment that's the only thing on offer that looks like change to them
I fully agree on the need for the left-leaning forces to work together. But I don't see Labour with its current leadership as belonging to this side of the divide... this is partly what makes everything so tricky...
The question is how can we stop this? I'm starting to realised that tge whole system is geared toward promoting this stuff, which makes it so difficult to resist. But resist we must as it'll only get worse, and fast, otherwise...
Almost all leading politicians have lost it now. Not to mention mainstream media who arexaiding and abetting them. Can't stand this misleading and dangerous propaganda
