#LondonFilmFestival REVIEW

ROOFMAN (dir. Derek Cianfrance)
Not quite the goofball comedy it’s being sold as, #Roofman has its share of humour but it’s also a touching tale of redemption, consequence acceptance & connection. Tatum & Dunst’s chemistry is surprisingly on point. RIP Toys R Us

SPRINGSTEEN: DELIVER ME FROM NOWHERE (dir. Scott Cooper)
Solid enough stuff. Hits the usual biopic notes without doing anything particularly special with the story. When it briefly gets into the heart of things, it’s quite affecting but elsewhere it feels flat #LFF

NO OTHER CHOICE (dir. Park Chan-wook)
Park Chan-wook’s kinetic, beautifully fluid direction, some seriously slick editing, a wickedly dark sense of humour & a riotously unpredictable story crash head-first for the wildest ride I’ve had this #LFF

It’s another Park Chan-wook banger lads. Beautifully fluid direction, some seriously slick editing, a wickedly dark sense of humour & a riotously unpredictable story crash head-first into one another for the wildest ride I’ve had this #LFF

#LondonFilmFestival REVIEW

ANEMONE (dir. Ronan Day-Lewis)
Nicely shot by Day-Lewis Jr & well performed by Day-Lewis Snr (obvs) but there’s not much elsewhere to get into here. Way too snoozy, obtuse & consumed with itself to offer anything of substance or justify its 2+ hour (!!!) runtime #LFF

#LondonFilmFestival REVIEW

FRANKENSTEIN (dir. Guillermo del Toro)
Beautiful gothic visuals, grand storytelling, enriched with heart & soul, this is a superior monster flick with GDT giving his spin on the original tale to deliver something thematically rich & immensely enjoyable #LFF

I don’t know who needs to hear this but #Task really is exceptional television and probably one of the shows of the year. Sad Ruffalo is everything to me right now. End of message

#LondonFilmFestival REVIEW

ROSE OF NEVADA (dir. Mark Jenkin)
Enigmatic, eerie, thematically rich, intentionally stilted. This is classic Mark Jenkin fare yet it also lets him flex dramatically with a time-travelling tale that’s more narratively robust than anything we’ve seen from him so far #LFF

#LondonFilmFestival REVIEW

HAMNET (dir. Chloé Zhao)
While its gloom can overwhelm & keep #Hamnet at arms length at times, when it hits, it hits. Zhao’s natural, humanist direction bring us right into the story in a way few filmmakers can. Paul Mescal is great but Jessie Buckley is everything #LFF
