DHS has clarified that SNAP recipients can use their EBT card with any unspent SNAP benefits in November. However, the Nov. SNAP benefits will be suspended until federal funds are available. If you are in need of food, you can find a local food bank at bit.ly/48PHvsm

🚨75% of voters - and 69% of Republicans - are very concerned about the rising costs of health care premiums.

But Republicans would rather shut down the government than protect working families from rising health care costs.

The Administration acknowledged that it will stop the survey that measures food insecurity, just as tariffs push up food prices and the deep cuts to food assistance enacted in July start to take effect. Congress must intervene to save these vital data. www.wsj.com/economy/trum...
Exclusive | Trump Administration Cancels Annual Hunger Survey
The government has been measuring food insecurity since the mid-1990s but now says the report has become “overly politicized.”

Some #SNAP participants will begin to see their food assistance reduced or eliminated due to the Republican megabill, based on a memo from USDA on Friday outlining how states must begin implementing one of the new law’s SNAP cuts. fns.usda.gov/snap/admin/e...

HHS announced today they will consider Head Start a welfare program, not an education program, and will subject it to new citizenship requirements. This goes against decades of legal precedence that all children in America have a right to education. Announcement here. www.hhs.gov/press-room/p...

$200 million in Georgia alone. Board members scrambling to decide whether to wait it out via their fund balance or start cutting positions. So illegal and mean.
They should reject any budget that would mean higher food costs for families, more people without health coverage, increased poverty and hardship, and higher debt — all in service to tax cuts for the wealthy. 4/
It’s time for Congressional leaders to abandon an agenda that puts the wealthy before everyone else and start serving the interests of their constituents. 3/
Cuts to these programs would be felt almost immediately across Georgia. Imagine a dad unable to get cancer treatment; parents who can’t afford care and support that their disabled child needs; a mom forced to skip meals so her children don’t go hungry. 2/
We must protect and defend SNAP and Medicaid! Say NO to the largest cuts in the programs’ histories! 2M Georgians have Medicaid to see the doctor & 1.4M get help affording the high cost of groceries through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). 1/
Thank you so much for covering SNAP in your analysis.
The Senate proposal for #SNAP would still cut hundreds of billions from the program by shifting costs to the states.
Senate Ag’s proposal would require most states to pay a portion of food benefit costs for the first time, leaving them w/ two options: significantly reduce the # of ppl receiving food assistance or some states ending #SNAP entirely. More from @Katie_Bergh: www.cbpp.org/research/foo...

States, which must balance their budgets every year, would struggle to absorb these substantial new costs.

While much attention on SNAP is focused on the terrible proposed changes at the fed level, clients' benefits are still being stolen. One feature meant to protect SNAP recipients is seldom used, because many clients aren't aware of it.

Georgia security lock feature for SNAP benefits seldom used
Georgia rolled out a security lock feature for SNAP cards in December in an effort to curb benefit theft. Six months later, only 6% of households are using it.

Check me out Politically GA Washington Wednesdays. I discussed the #SNAP provisions in the House-passed bill that would increase food insecurity in Georgia and the rest of the country.

Right now, House Ag is marking up a bill that would cut #SNAP by hundreds of billions of dollars. One talking point is that it would address fraud. However, there is nothing in the bill to support SNAP clients who are victims of fraud via skimming

The House Ag bill released tonight would take away or cut #SNAP food benefits for millions of low-income people struggling to afford groceries—families w/ children, seniors, ppl w/ disabilities, veterans & workers in low-wage jobs.
