Popped into a local op shop during lunch for a quick browse, and thought I'd come up empty-handed for a change, til I spotted this on a bottom shelf on the way out.

Mine for the princely sum of $4 - appears to be brand spanking new/unread too - bonus!

'Matter' (a Culture novel) by Iain M. Banks. Cover illustration shows a humanoid figure in part-silhouette with flowing cloak or long coat, on the orange-tinged surface of a planet.

Probably for most of them to not be raking it in on the side from multiple rental properties they also own.

And also probably worried it'll be a vote-loser, despite the fact most people who own their home will be fine with it, along with millions of would-be home owning voters...

And with every first home buyer bonus, since all first home buyers have the same increase in available funds, it just drives prices up even further.

Really it’s a government funded seller’s bonus, which does nothing to increase affordability. They know what really needs to be done, but don’t do it.

And where the “knowledge” has maybe a 30% chance of even being correct… 🤷‍♂️

I broadly feel the same about almost any song by the Grateful Dead.

(I've finally reached a point where I genuinely appreciate the Dead originals, but still often prefer the covers.)

Christ on a bike, was it written by a foetus? 🧐

I was going to ask what it was called, as it sounded quite up my alley, until you got to that detail, which is so wrong-headed on so many levels I don’t think I could get past it. 🙄🤷‍♂️

PS And no need to attribute - really it's just my distillation of similar things I've seen others note in the past!

Heya, tbh I haven't cos I try not to do LinkedIn - I log in there maybe two or three times a year at most.

Feel free to paraphrase/rewrite for your own purposes, if you want to improve it and/or post on there - annoying GenAI techbros is a fine goal, so go for it. 👍

No-one commissioning an actual human artist considers themself to be the “artist” of the final work, no matter how much detail they might include in the brief.

Claiming to be “the artist” when it’s machine-generated prompt-slop is no different.

You’re not the artist, you’re the client.

Not even looked at news today. Sometimes just need a day off for mental wellbeing...

I did browse straight to Bird of the Year though. Tawny Frogmouth for me. If it doesn't get up this time, AND also comes second yet again, I will have to assume The Gruniard is in thrall to Big Any Other Bird. 🤔

Heh, I was busy at work when I first saw it and thought I'd leave it to see if someone else was going to jump in, and then a while later thought, "Why not me?" 😂

I was going to accompany it with the Jurassic clip, but in my searching came across this... 😉

I was there from early 90s to 2008. And yeah, the nostalgia for those days remains all too real.

Extra clever for a velociraptor, disguising herself like that. 😉

Sadly true; just be nice if there were more benign ones, in both social media and IRL. 🤨

True! Though this way lies madness, I fear! 😜

Ha, one of the funny things about getting older is my constant re-calibration of what actually consitutes "old". 😉

They're pretty good, for sure. And no worries re: double-fruiting in a single year on a previously two-yearly cycle. I'm assuming it's some erratic weather/temperature thing - as you say, I guess we'll see what actually comes to bear with time. 👍

Bloody hell, in the same boat and I did not need that either.

I remember when that album came out, and that shot, and I remember thinking "Wow, they're all so _old_..." 😱

Yeah it’s hammering here at the moment (I’m in car about to run in to supermarket) but looks like it’ll be much worse when the second band comes through. 😬

Niiiice! We have quite a shallow front porch but on rainy nights I sometimes sit out there with a harmonica or ukulele and a drink and just play while the rain falls. 😁

More info: They're a Californian variety (either UC13A5 or 6), smaller but very hardy and drought-resistant. Took us quite a bit of research before we settled on them, and recommended to us by a Victorian grower who has trialled a great number of different varieties over the years. 2/2

Ours are absolutely delicious, green or black, and our Greek neighbours say they're among the best olives they've ever tasted too.

They're about 15 years old and started fruiting early (2-3 years) but it wasn't until they were 7-8 that they became so prolific we had more than we could use. 1/2

I don't understand all the deets, but there's some kind of infrastructure dependency in how Blacksky and Bluesky interact, so while Link should have still been findable via Blacksky, that wasn't the case, but Blacksky are working on it.

Didn't like the initial banning though... Seemed... spurious.
