"L'Agence France-Presse ne peut accepter les termes fixés dans un document du Pentagone qui exige des médias la signature de nouvelles conditions peu précises d'accès aux informations et semblant contraires aux principes constitutionnels américains et aux règles élémentaires du journalisme.

Nous appelons le Pentagone à revoir ces conditions.
Les nouvelles restrictions proposées dans ce document vont à l'encontre des fondements du travail de journaliste et sapent les droits prévus au premier amendement de la Constitution des États-Unis.

Elles placent des entraves non nécessaires au travail des journalistes et créent la confusion entre les responsabilités des employés du Pentagone et celles des journalistes qui en couvrent l'actualité.

L'AFP ne peut souscrire à une politique qui exige des journalistes de mettre de côté leur indépendance et impartialité professionnelles lorsqu'ils travaillent à propos d'une institution aussi importante que le Pentagone.

Nous devons continuer de couvrir le Pentagone et l'armée américaine de façon libre et honnête, comme nous le faisons depuis des décennies."
