Nothing work-related, or at least that’s the plan. Mostly books, and Edinburgh.

A seaside day and a stomp along North Berwick’s west beach to blast away some cobwebs
Yep - this works for me. Currently spectacularly craftenflunken having massively over-promised on Halloween costumes for my children, attempting stuff I have no hope in hell of pulling off & barely managing to thread up the sewing machine

As part of our cook-along of Felicita Sala’s A Year in Fleurville, October was butternut cake which was like (not sure if this was intended) a cross between a carrot cake and a pumpkin pie. Icing sugar doing a lot of heavy lifting but tasted good.
Drinking up the Autumn colours in Edinburgh’s botanic gardens
I grew up in a town in Fife and they were called Aberdeen butteries!
I think I’m going to need *at least* an episode explaining how Yi-Heon time travelled but, more specifically, how he negotiated the suit and haircut #bonappetityourmajesty
Looks like the makings of a perfect afternoon (great book, many very pretty horses)
It’s also #portfolioday and some incredible artists showcasing their work on this # for the polar opposite of doomscrolling
Acceptable in context of cake?
I loved this - Cold Kitchen by Caroline Eden. A love letter to Eastern Europe, Central Asia, traveling and wanderlust - and also to feeling at home in Edinburgh. Organised by season and a meditation on marking the year through food and seasonal recipes

I quite like days like this when Edinburgh is shrouded in mist and all the edges are blurred (and it matches my mood today)
Picked up ‘The Invisible Parade’ by Leigh Bardugo with beautiful illustrations by John Picacio - a story about coping with grief set around Day of the Dead
Also need to mention the excellent Far From the Madding Crowd bookshop on Linlithgow’s High St - a real treasure trove and jam-packed with beautiful books
First trip to Linlithgow Palace - and would have loved to have seen the courtyard fountain flowing with wine
I love this building - I visited for the first time around the time we were reading the Ada Goth series and the two are now inextricably linked
A Smith and Gertrude wine flight and a book at the bar - I liked finding out that people reading books over a glass of wine were one of the target audiences when the founders set the bar up 10 years ago! Wine was delicious though book choice - Tender is the Flesh - continues to creep me out
New book (the very freshly published Mate by Ali Hazelwood) - and an evening off
I would love to wear this fabric
It took a highly sophisticated Jacquard weave to create the incredibly detailed oranges that form the fabric of of this early 1890s dress. You can almost smell the citrusy peel. There so many details to observe here, the pattern matching, the cuff trim, the drama! #V&A #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
Temperature has dropped & October door wreath is up 🍂 🎃
How amazing are these Halloween candles?! From Watson’s Wick Works (@Watson’s wick works on insta) who are at Edinburgh Portobello’s Brighton Park market first Saturday of the month - & at the Pitt market on October 12th
@historygamesnet.bsky.social guessing this might already be on your radar but just in case not & it’s of interest
