Not counting films that popped into my head because they were mentioned in the prompt or the quote-tweet that put it in my feed:

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)
The Mummy (1932)
Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
The Fly (1986)

Quote this with the first four Horror movies that come to your mind that are 10/10s for you. No cheating. Just the first four that pop into your head.

I'll go first:
-Silence of the Lambs
-I Saw the Devil
-Coherence
-Jaws

Surely BAMPFA will show it eventually but…

They’d have to come in at the one hour mark in order to match the runtime ratio of Blissfully Yours.

Weird. It’s scheduled to play fourteen times in a 376-seat museum theatre in Portland, Maine.

Wasted opportunity not to cast Sir Paul too…

Was just on the McGill campus nine days ago! I see how it could stand in for an Ivy…

I’ve never been able to come up with a precedent and I’ve thought about it a lot since experiencing first hand in April 2003.

I guess Puffy went to Cal- maybe Bill too? But Roddy was an SFSU Gator and Mike went to Humboldt State. Jim was at Chabot College with Cliff Burton. No idea how many degrees earned in total.

I had to guess one of them (the “Money” question) but I guessed it right!

Fall of Otrar is incredible.

I believe that’s the cover for the European release. The US Cassette release also includes more of the painting than the US CD. (I owned both at one point.)

There are three albums left in the tournament that could conceivably called “metal”. Next week The Cult’s SONIC TEMPLE faces The Cure and Ministry’s MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO TASTE faces the Beastie Boys. Suffice to say THE REAL THING is the genre’s only hope of participating in round 4. Vote FNM!

It’s excellent, but “The River” was my bonus because it’s a particular stand-out, especially since it’s her own composition, which seemed important for the first appearance here by a previously unpolled artist perhaps better known for her activism & interpretations of standards than as a songwriter.

I may have been invited to a 924 Gilman show as early as 1989 (certainly by 1990) but i didn’t feel like I’d have fit in. Took me until 2009 to finally go to see a co-worker’s band.

(Well, not yesterday but that was still round 2)

I’m fervently hoping for at least two and wouldn’t mind a lot. This week I believe I’m voting for the underdog each day.

Embarrassed to admit as a Bay Area native that I hadn’t heard most of it until the tournament!
hellonfriscobay.bsky.social
I didn’t vote for it this round but that doesn’t mean I’m not bummed too. Burdened with a terrible seed and some bad luck on top of that.

Operation Ivy: st
Pop Will Eat Itself: This is the Day, This is the Hour, This is This
Queen Latifah: All Hail the Queen
Indigo Girls: st
Nomeansno: Wrong

The final eighth of this bracket got a lot less interesting to me with these favorites all gone (though there are still albums I like in play.)

I spaced on presenting my usual “fallen soldiers” list of first-round favorites I’d most miss in round 2, but let me present my round 2 set of LPs that I most wish could’ve advanced (whether I voted for them or not):

808 State: 90
Soul II Soul: Keep on Movin’
Wire: IBTABA

(Continues in post 2)

That film only has one “The” though! Where’s the made-up title?
hellonfriscobay.bsky.social
It was a simple Google search “one battle after another” “showtimes” “Portland Maine”.
hellonfriscobay.bsky.social
Not my favorite of theirs! (Some great tracks of course.)
hellonfriscobay.bsky.social
Wait, isn’t that where YOU are originally from…

1983. More of a thoughtful art film (apropos to the subject, arguably) than Taymor’s striking but more melodramatic approach.
