So, the video aired without this information, sadly, but this is a reversal. And the press release confirms it here:
Elections Calgary didn’t respond to my queries Wednesday or again earlier today — but tonight a press release:
Calgary’s returning officer was clear: a recount would only involve polls that fell within a close-race threshold. But the province said that a recount should involve votes cast in the mayoral race city-wide
There was a confusing element here: how a recount of the mayor’s race might play out under new legislation that allows close-race candidates to request a recount. be done for all mayor votes.
This week I learned a lot about recounts.

📖 read some legislation
🗣️ called some people
🤔found out stuff I didn’t need — like how to deal with a tie

Here’s the story: What to expect in Calgary as a recount request is underway: youtu.be/cL5F4nY73V0?...
My 2017 GIF …a Farkas “signature dance move” from election profile archives — who would’ve thought these would continue to be relevant? Not that blonde Metro reporter
My partner’s top complaint this election — he wants a ranked vote!

Municipal election day crowdsource: what municipality did you vote in today and how long did you wait to vote?

I’m in SE Edmonton and have now waited one hour. The front of the line is close, though ….

Don’t forget to vote for school trustee(s).

Brussels sprouts for attention only. #yegvote
I just finished and yup took way longer to process electors than actually cast ballot. Sometimes the voting booths only had 1 person casting at a time 🫠
Thoughts waiting to vote:
- Am I going to be late for work?
- That lady is knitting while waiting
- That’s the third dog in here
- about 50 people fit in the gym

Annnnnd phew that’s done ✅
Took me at least 1 hr to cast my ballot
Just looking at the CBC Debate’s live-stream numbers climb and wondering: have you decided? www.youtube.com/live/Ily1ilP...
Unironically asked my partner who is stressed about this game and he says there is no such thing — and then said good joke — I had to give you the props tho
I keep hearing this claim: Political parties are new to municipal politics in Alberta.

But guess what? They actually have a long history in Calgary and Edmonton. Here’s what I found youtu.be/Fn9pqFBy8Is?...
This isn't the first time parties have entered municipal politics in Alberta

Public safety is a top election issue. But Calgary Police commission memo highlights a struggle to bring on new hires — something to keep in mind as voters track campaign promises

Sometimes the star of the story doesn’t quite translate in the final news segment. So, here’s a moment for the horse I met last week:
There’s a smell lingering around Canmore, it really stinks, and getting to the bottom of it is costing the mountain town millions:

Also tho a similar thing happened this summer too in Calgary? Not with the kidnapping but the catch a predator
Public safety rebrand!
Keep your eyes peeled!
But unless the rat multiplies (miraculous conception?) I can’t see it being a huge worry — what’s there to stress about?
Rat reports increase in the summer. For this one they assume this rat hitched a ride from BC (someone vacationing) typically when this happens the rats are dead on arrival (assumed dehydration, hunger). Maybe the rain meant more water to survive?
