I’ve been on a Facebook break for a few days. My mind feels clearer already.
Day 28 of 30 of art as protest. Please check out Debbie Chapnick’s page for more art! Today’s artist is Alison Saar, daughter of Betye Saar who I featured awhile back. Her work chronicles the experiences of black women while including spiritual and magical imagery.
Day 26 of 30 in art as protest. Be sure to check out Debbie Chapnick’s page, too! Today’s art is from Artemisia Gentileschi. She has quite a life story, which I hope you will google. She is perhaps the first Feminist artist! This is her “Judith Slaying Holofernes.”
Day 25 of 30 in Art as Protest
Please also check out Debbie Chapnick’s page today! Today I have chosen Renee Cox, who is known for using herself as a model for images of black women as Super Heroes. This is her 1988 work, “Chillin’ with Liberty.”

Greer Lankton was known for her life-like dolls. All of the dolls are portraits of her friends and refer to gender topics. The artist always enjoyed playing with dolls. As her parents were taking the toys away, deeming them “inappropriate” for a boy, she began sewing puppets from cloth scraps.
