And you get to play whatever you like in the shop (which I did when I worked in a supermarket’s own-brand mobile phone shop, but those customers did not want to talk about music, the boring shits. Except when Bowie died and we played him all day, and that was just one guy semi-complaining).

The guy in my local record shop does a similar thing with any R’n’R/R&B that’s come in since last time I was there. I’m just trying to slowly/subconsciously twist their arm into giving me a job one day - I’ve already been mistaken for an employee by other customers at least once, might as well.

Never understood that one (though I suspect the Twilight books perpetuated into this century). Not even as a heavily eyelinered teen did I think ‘wow, wish I could shag that nutter Heathcliff’ - and I was so much That Kid, I compared images of death in WH and Rebecca for my A Level coursework.

I don’t mind it as long as I know beforehand it’s CD-R - I can at least play them on the computer, or on the telly if I use my DVD player, but the speakers aren’t nearly as good.

…so, record-wise, I’m kind of in the same boat but the opposite port, as it were. Even before the tariffs, the postage costs to/from America have shot up to the point where it’s almost never worth it in the last 5/10 years. A single will be priced ~$3-5, but the postage/VAT will end up £20+.

Jasmine release some great stuff, but unfortunately they seem to use CD-R for a lot of releases, and my stereo is too old to read them. I think the reissue labels became such a thing over here because it’s so hard to find original copies of music originally only released in the US…
