Rockstar #radonc @mskcancercenter.bsky.social resident Dr Kaitlyn Lapen presents at #ASTRO25 on quality of life improvements with early radiation for asymptomatic bone metastasis which may appear after 6 months. Optimal patient selection is key. @astro-org.bsky.social
Conclusions
• From phase Il primary study, early RT reduces SRE (30% vs. 2%)
• More work needed to better predict SRE
• Early RT may preserve self-care and functional ability compared to observation
• Benefits emerge after about six months
• Consider prognosis
• Patient-reported outcomes provide insightful and hypothesis-generating findings
• Confirmatory Phase Ill randomized controlled trial (NRG-CC014, PREEMPT) is ongoing
• Has enrolled 48/280 patients
