Yes I know. What I meant there was the usual reconstruction of C5th ‘Goths’ on the basis of the material from the Balkans/Danubian areas. You and I both know that that stuff is unlikely to be diagnostically Gothic but it’s a reasonable stab at what Goths (and others from the region) might have…

What’s interesting, by the way, about the picture that Mischa and/or his publisher has chosen for the cover is that it’s one of a number of historical paintings of Huns from about the time of the Boxer Rebellion/Russo-Japanese War/emergence of the Japanese Empire that depict in pretty lurid terms…
