This remains one of my favourite anecdotes from the English Civil War.

As far as I can tell, this policy would deport my Swedish wife (who has a well-paying job and pays thousands in tax each year, not that that should decide these things) because she "took" from society by going on maternity leave when our kids were born.
Tory policy is to revoke permanent residence (ILR) for everybody who does not earn £38k - deporting most nurses who have ILR

This is put in the video as "who is unlikely to contribute more than they cost"

NB: video does not say EU settled status is exempt

No govt since Idi Amin has done this

The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion.

The entire bottom 50% of America is worth just $4.2 trillion.

Read that back.

When 400 people control more wealth than half a country’s population, we have a very serious problem.

Either you're against fascism, or you're foolish enough to believe it won't come for you.

I say this with the bluntness it requires: they will get people murdered if this continues. This is not just populism anymore either: it’s completely unhinged and a deliberate choice that does endanger lives. I am not saying this lightly at all.
A bit late to this. @heythroplib.bsky.social never awarded degrees the range of people who studied at Heythrop College, post -1970, was wide, and there were also more non-Catholics studying there than one might assume.however, I might have handled a book the incoming Archbishop might have used.
Agent K7*1 and assistant on board. Let's go! (*1 not K9,as a) A small K9, and b) also only got the licence to chill)
Ok, it is Tuesday when I work a longer day, but sometimes you just need to hang in there, even if the working week is still 3 days longer

Telegraph front page has a follow-up to the story it ran yesterday, criticising Angela Rayner for avoiding tax on her homes.
Inside, on its money pages, an article advising readers on ... how to avoid tax on their second homes. #r4today www.telegraph.co.uk/money/proper...

And there we have it - you can very easily dismantle Farage's greatest hits. Polanski's doing it. And this very fine fellow's doing it too.

If you are a political leader who refuses to do it, you're either a coward or compromised and actively complicit with the far right.
A man on the streets of the UK is asked about the “problem of immigration” and dismantles talking points with ease.

The likes of The Telegraph can now go back to advising people how to avoid stamp duty on their second home, eg by creating a trust for their children...

The same news channel should ask how much all the by-elections caused by failed candidates is costing tax payers. Reform Ltd were all about reducing waste and cutting public spending. Do they not understand how much elections cost?

I think that it is good when they move; if they get stuck it is problematic. So that Iis just from one 'stoned' patient to another.

ChatGPT is down but The Museum of English Rural Life still stands, proving once again that Silicon Valley cannot compete with the history of rural England and its people.
