The new European Butterfly Red List is published today, with worrying findings. Over 1/4 (28%) of Europe’s 442 species are threatened with extinction or are close to being so. A Fruit Fly (Dioxyna bidentis) in the family Tephritidae

The larvae feed on Asteraceae developing in the flower heads, the are a localised but widespread species. This one was found on Common Ragwort

Oak Bolete (Butyriboletus appendiculatus)

An edible fungi that grows under primarily oaks

The cap is 7-10 cm and rusty to red brown. Its stipe (stem) and pores are bright yellow and its flesh stains bright blue when cut or bruised

A gall wasp that has two generations per year. Seems to be having a great year here with one oaks branches bending under the weight
