As a child, we lived over seas. When I was 6, we went to Kenya on safari. On occasion, at one of the camps, a White Rhino named Rudy would come visit for treats of fruit. We got to pet him! I still remember it vividly. He was massive and quite chill. Whenever I see a rhino I think of Rudy and smile

A juvenile swimming crab (family Portunidae) on a a Red Sea Whip, Junceella sp.

A very small, translucent crab perched on a bright red whip coral.

The crab is delicate and almost see-through, with a flattened, oval body and spindly legs. Its two eyes stick out on short stalks, and one of its small claws is raised slightly. Fine hairs and speckles cover its shell, giving it a slightly rough texture despite its transparent look.

The whip coral beneath it is a smooth, cylindrical, rope-like structure that curves gently through the frame. Its vivid red color contrasts strongly with the crab’s pale, almost invisible body. The background is completely black, making the crab and coral appear sharply lit and isolated, as if floating in darkness.

I just came back from PNG. In places,water temps were 88f at 100’. Needless to say, reefs that were once the most pristine in the world are now dead. Not bleached-DEAD.

The bird perched on a rustic wooden fence has a bright, fiery red-orange head and back, with deep black underparts. Its feathers appear smooth and glossy, especially the wings, which show a warm orange sheen. The bill and legs are black, and the bird’s posture is alert, angled slightly forward as if ready to hop or take off.

The Red Satinbird is a small bird-of-paradise relative found in the mountain forests of New Guinea, usually at elevations between 1,800 and 3,500 meters. Males are strikingly colored — brilliant red-orange above and black below — while females are more camouflaged, in browns and olives.

I didn’t even realize when I first looked at this image that the agent behind him has a gun loaded and pointed at him. I believe I read he was shot with pepper spray. Clearly the agents intent was to injure. At that range, aiming for his head could have dire consequences with a “non lethal” device.
