Here's one of our Highbush Blueberries providing a splash of colour at our Landscape Paludiculture Farm! This is an American cousin of our native Bilberry or Fraochán but much bigger and more productive!

Our ongoing paludiculture trials are showing how wetter farming can provide sustainable crops while restoring peatlands. By raising the water table and embracing new ways of farming, we’re working with nature — protecting biodiversity, storing carbon, and supporting communities. 🌿✨

It's all part of agriculture and forestry working with nature, not against it—healing the land for people, climate, water quality and wildlife. 💚

Raising the water table helps reverse this process and create ecologically valuable wet woodland. Medium-term these could be coppiced to produce biochar for the bioeconomy.💧🌿
🌳✨They might look picturesque but trees and shrubs on peat soils, accelerate the drying out process, leading to increased carbon emissions to the air and water and long-term damage to the peat soil and original peatland ecosystem.
