Been posting some songs I’ve made lately and figured I should start a thread where I can put links to all the projects I’ve finished and uploaded as playlists to YouTube
I can’t believe I forgot to include that felt like one of those nights where the band I was seeing wrote the setlist specifically for me

I try not to go to show w expectations of seeing any specific song, but they played everything I was lowkey hoping for, like a perfect setlist for my first show
And that’s how I became obsessed with one of the greatest groups of musicians to ever pick up an instrument

And here’s a recording of that show too!
King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard- 10/21/22- Forest Hills Stadium- Queens, NY- Full Set- AUDIO ONLY

making trails as soon as we get up, so walking and then driving through pre-dawn Queens when it felt like the rest of the world was still asleep was a really cool experience (some folks like night life, I always like cities best when they’re still waking up)
equally excited by the time the show came around

We ended up getting an Air BnB within walking distance to the show and drove into the city. One of the coolest parts of the trip was the next morning; we’re both the kind that if we’re staying somewhere overnight, we’re pretty much good to start
getting into them, and one day surprised me with tix for us to see the Forest Hills show. At that point she was more in the “I can tolerate them enough to go along cuz I know he really likes them” (she’s the best ❤️) and in the few months from then til the show her own fandom blossomed and we were
her my phone playing either Presumptuous or Persistence, getting an eye roll and, in one of my proudest comebacks ever, without missing a beat said “You liked it when you thought it was a Beck song”

I think it was when I had the Mind Fuzz suite playing that she secretly Shazam’d it and started
That spring there were quite a few “is this that fucking Lizard band again?”s from my wife, who was a bit slower to come around

I recall working some songs into listening rotation while cooking dinner, then one day she sees me grooving with my headphones on, asks what I’m listening to and showing
perfect metaphor for climate change, and 2. Awesome, I have a new favorite song; I hope the rest of their stuff doesn’t suck

Then I listened to The Dripping Tap like 3-4 times every day until Omnium Gather came out, then listened to that album at least twice a day for a good month or two
But back to 2022, the next morning I looked the band up, and cool, they have a new album coming out next week that this Dripping Tap song is on

So I put on this song and was immediately blown away. Before getting through the whole thing I had two distinct thoughts: 1. OMG, a leaky faucet is the
from PMDB or Oddments based on my reaction of ‘oh, so it’s like weird, psychedelic… folk music? Okay, cool for the folks into this, but is this really what’s getting ppl so excited). I still sometimes wish that I’d just decided to put on a second song back in 2015-17 or whenever that was
sort of familiar with - I remember years before reading online about some Australian band folks were excited about that put out multiple albums every year and had actually checked out a song at that time but didn’t really feel like it grabbed me (I can’t recall what song, but I’m guessing something
intrigued by this stranger’s excitement (I don’t think it was an account I followed, but came up from someone liking or resharing it). Saw the location was tagged as being in Vegas and looked up who was playing out that way with a song by that name

When it came up it was actually a name I was
am fairly certain they’re the only band that I could probably figure out the specific date I started listening to; some night in April ‘22 I was sitting on my couch, scrolling on twitter and saw a post, absent of any context, that simply said “holy shit they played the dripping tap,” and was
3 years ago today was my first King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard show, and a great show that I’ll never forget

(KGLW fan origin story incoming, tho I think I may have shared part of it before)

I’d started listening to Gizz about 6 months earlier and was immediately obsessed. Kinda funny, but I
Even if it wasn’t until like 2012 - esp the Dick’s run - that it really felt like they were *back* back, this show felt like a definite high point that at least pointed toward them being comfortable enough back on stage that they could ~really~ go for it and start catching some of that magic again
Neither of these shows have any tentpole jams and probably aren’t going to change the way that you look at music, but just really solid shows and, Guyutica particularly, showing the band really being at ease and sort of having shaken off the rust of being broken up for 5 years
the first sets way more than the second. Had the same feeling of “oh hey, there’s still another half a show here” when getting to the end of each first set
It’s been a while since I’ve listened to much Fall 2010 aside from the two, but Guyutica and Manchester still hold up really well 15 years later (listened to Manchester on the way up to tour opening this past summer)

Another thing they have in common is that I absolutely remember them both for
Maybe it’s becuz Guyute makes its way into nearly every song that follows, so there’s just a lot of teases in this set, but in my head I always think there’s a few more teases in that set closing Antelope

I did catch one of those ones that felt like a recap of the set 1/1 or 1/2 2016 at MSG
(putting it on it was what inspired the initial post, so this is turning into a Guyutica thread)

Trey playing the Wilson intro during Bowie and getting the audience to chant, then adding ‘He’s bouncing like a newborn elf’ and turning it into a call-and-response section is so amazingly cool
You mean you don’t refer to your friends differently depending on the method you contact them; like by their phone number when you text/call, or by their email address if emailing them?
leaving me thinking ‘no man, he’s not saying stop, he’s giving the rest of you room.’

I haven’t really been listening as closely lately, but can’t tell if that hasn’t been an issue in recent years due to Trey being more patient with jams, of Fishman being more active and dropping out less
On the topic of ‘it’s a bummer when Fishman stops drumming,’ iirc one kinda frustrating thing about the first few years after Phish coming back was it felt like a lot of times when they would get into a particularly spacey jam, the second Fish stopped drumming Trey would start up the next song,
Stick-in-the-mud take: I don’t care for the woo-ing during Vultures

But mostly just cuz it means that Jon stops drumming for like 3/4 of each bar where there’s a Woo
Fishman’s drums during Vultures has gotta be one of my top 10 things to ever happen in music
