I'm so grateful for his light. I'm so saddened that it's no longer here to help light our way through this terribly dark era.

Pope Francis was singular. HIs love was immense. His legacy, eternal. He wanted to be a "shepherd with the smell of the sheep" on him. And he cared for them relentlessly.

Pritzker: Over the last four years, we have seen homicides drop in half. That’s something the President should pay attention to. I know he doesn’t read but I know he watches TV so perhaps if someone from Fox or Newsmax is here

Gov. Pritzker: “Earlier today in the Oval Office, Donald Trump…asked for me personally to say, ‘Mr. President, can you do us the honor of protecting our city?’ Instead, I say, ‘Mr. President, do not come to Chicago. You are neither wanted here nor needed here.’”

Pritzker: To the members of the press who are assembled here today and listening across the country, I am asking for your courage to tell it like it is. This is not a time to pretend here that there are two sides to this story.

Reporter: The president threatened to use not just the National Guard but the military.

Bowser: I think I speak for all Americans, we don't believe it is legal to use the American military against American citizens on American soil.

The military takeover of Washington is not a “distraction” from Epstein. It’s a military takeover of Washington, which is an even bigger deal, and those of us who kill brain cells reporting on this stuff knows it’s been an explicit goal since before the election.

Fuck it.
I’m releasing these.

The police seized all of my lasers during this operation. I have a court date in my future. #FreeLordLaser #FreeLadyLaser

I will tell the whole story later. But it was all worth it to release these images on this day.

Today's story from Vatican City. I'm so grateful to these lovely people for taking the time to share the story of their friendship with Pope Leo XIV (and the arc of a long friendship told in selfies and precious memories.)

It's so good to be here. I just love this and I've missed it terribly. Love you!
And pulling up the rear, story #3 — #LesterHolt 's encounter with #PopeLeoXIV during Monday's audience with the world's media (and how the new pontiff says he won't be heading home to the US or Chicago any time soon)...

I dusted off my fedora and headed to Rome this week to cover the #PopeLeoXIV festivities for my alma mater @chicago.suntimes.com

Here's my first dispatch (and the first words I've written for the Sun-Times in 15 years!)

Of course, it's a papal baseball story.

Pope Leo asks fan 'Sox or Cubs?' as he signs a baseball
After waiting in line at the Vatican, Jason Perash of Colorado got the pontiff to autograph a ball. The pope is reportedly a Chicago White Sox fan.
