to understand the motive behind the big ai push, read this and then think about it in the same context of uber/lyft. they were only able to undercut the cost of cabs by burning gargantuan speculative investment.

you are frequently cheaper than ai - they're operating at huge losses to undercut you!
Author and filmmaker Justine Bateman on generative AI
"They're trying to convince people they can't do the things they've been doing easily for years - to write emails, to write a presentation. Your daughter wants you to make up a bedtime story about puppies - to write that for you." We will get to the point, she says with a grim laugh, "that you will essentially become just a skin bag of organs and bones, nothing else. You won't know anything and you will be told repeatedly that you can't do it, which is the opposite of what life has to offer. Capitulating all kinds of decisions like where to go on vacation, what to wear today, who to date, what to eat.
People are already doing this. You won't have to process grief, because you'll have uploaded photos and voice messages from your mother who just died, and then she can talk to you via AI video call every day. One of the ways it's going to destroy humans, long before there's a nuclear disaster, is going to be the emotional hollowing-out of people." - author and filmmaker Justine Bateman from a piece by Emine Saner for the Guardian

We are very excited to announce:
HYPERBEAT releases October 22nd!
damn but that's a very cute logo refresh though, reminds me of how pringles's went the other way and became simpler instead of more flourished but still retained most of the branding
why is one of the iOS jalibreaking methods called Home Depot
if you have access to ram and IO you're in a world of trouble because that's MITMLand (in the sense of disneyland)
i would think that there does come a point at which even exploits can be waved off with enough isolation and hypervision, but the point about cryptography and signature checks does stand if nintendo's attempts at patching things is anything to go by, although ...
whereas with an untrusted environment there is no way that any of the calls i'm making to secure myself (lest I make an entirely new environment within, which would likely defeat the purpose at some barrier) are certain to be as safe as they are required to be to maintain trust
it might not be wise, but I've put sandboxes inside sandboxes to have programs run inside (more accurately my setup had been sandbox ] VM ] host)

note, though...
with enough spoofing, how can untrusted code tell the difference between a sandbox and an exploitable host?
or more interestingly, what I did with Some
what if I double-deck it
what if I airgap it.
a trusted device can be a sandbox. what guarantees that the untrusted device is not backdoored?
i can't read through remote desktop

I saw big graphics on 3x3 and I was like "damn we gotta cube now"
that is what i am fearing

thinking about this all-time favourite GNOME Moment
A GitLab issue tracker comment from an anonymised maintainer on GNOME Music, the issue suggests adding a volume slider and the comment was "Why do you think a volume control is necessary?"
oh hell nah i was already struggling with 2x2 i'm not about to go CUBE
just step back up bro you got this
thank you. see you next year.
1. it's... going decent, actually, despite not releasing the larger update just yet.

2. polished a game from 2023 and put it up, got okay recognition, another game i'm helping in also released, some stuff i can't really talk about too but it's all been small wins, i think.

3. for the most part, yes.

4. well... i joined my first gamejam and managed to actually complete something, which means something must've gotten better along the way!
...still, need to work on that front, though.

5. in some aspects, maybe.
i would say sompared to this time, yeah.

a little bit worse, but it's probably nothing to worry about. some health related things and the reduction of my fere time and energy has really done a number on my mood...
this tweet was originally written on 12/oct/24, moved to bluesky, as i no longer use X.

i want to work on myself a little bit more and fulfill other goals. i hope i can answer the following positively:
how's that game going?

any significant accomplishments?

i've promised myself to untie some harmful knots still attached to me. have i?

am i managing projects better?

do i love myself more?

i started feeling better. do you feel better or worse than the moment in which i wrote this?
there are only blue switches and red switches
