I think some of the stuff happening on the upper surface is from the remobilisation and mixing of the failed mass. Get some earth flows and even some faster debris flows.Next time I take a class out there you will have to come along and we can fight it out with ice axes in front of the students! 2/2

Some good points, and I think we are generally agreeing, I like a steep backscarp with maybe some minor rotation, connecting at depth with a largely horizontal failure plane. It has been a while but pretty sure Laura Fletchers thesis with Oldrich had a lower ~horizontal failure plane. 1/2

And many of these "kids" are in their 20's and running GOP organisations. Sorry, old enough to know better. Well not sorry....

Hate to be negative, but by then it will probably be too late.

Disagree on it being a rotational failure. Think it is a ~horizontal failure plane at depth. When it was better exposed the un-remobilized sediments were largely horizontal. I think that helps to explain the big graben features on the top. I am sure you will now submit pictures to prove me wrong.

I also love that landslide! I have taken many a student fieldtrip there, many with Bruce Thomson. He showed me that, and also Pierce Creek debris flow! Sure do miss him! Sleae is great as the students see glaciolacustrine sediments, different failure types and lots of indicators of instability! 1/

Hubble and NuStar image of Arp 299, also known as NGC 3690.

NuSTAR data overlaid on a Hubble image of the interacting galaxy pair show the galaxy on the right has an active supermassive black hole, glowing brightly in X-rays.

Credit: NASA, JPL-Caltech, GSFC
Source
Two merging galaxies form an abstract shape, which looks a little like an upside down rubber duck. Within the "head" and "body" of the duck are crossed brown swirls, which are dust and gas. The outside of the duck is outlined with hazy yellow swirls, which are streams of stars. Near the "neck" of the duck, at the point where the two merging galaxies touch, and slightly to the right is a bright white blob, surrounded by pink blobs. This is X-ray light from NuStar, which shows emission from an active supermassive black hole in the right galaxy.

This image shows a stack of six lightning bolts nearly striking the same spot six time in only one minute of elapsed time! Mother nature really had it out for whoever was down there... #photography
A sculpted, layered LP supercell at night. The structure is illuminated by six lightning strikes hitting the ground to the right of the storm. A clear, starry night sky is on the left of the storm. A car's headlights can be seen in the distance.

Not sure “the Beast” thinks the forebuldge is important enough to ignore her! #caturday
Fluffy Grey with some white, evil looking cat staring intently at me as I ignore her and try to read and article on glacial forebulges.

Aren’t they cute when they are so unreasonably optimistic!
I’ve seen this story before

Sounds good! I didn’t know it was so rigorous.

Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world,... I feel like I can't take it. And my heart is just going to cave in.

Why would the reporters actually believe this and write it!

That woolly mammoth looks like it has ringworm and lost a lot of hair. Maybe that's why it went extinct?

Does she really love it?
I get the same response when I correct some event in some historical drama.

Since I would suspect that things like this are already illegal, will it make a difference?

I am old enough to remember all the times it was announced there would be "Peace in the Middle East". As this article states, this will be difficult. Let's hope the killing stops. I would like to be optimistic about peace, but with extremists in control on all sides....

ANALYSIS | Trump has promised 'eternal peace' in Gaza. But current ceasefire ignores key issues | CBC News
The sense of relief sweeping across the Middle East and beyond over the news that a ceasefire in Gaza is finally within sight is palpable. But negotiators have repeatedly stressed that the deal is jus...

Well statistically, the batter is more likely to hit at least one of those pitches, no?
