The thing that I’ve been debating is (considering the rest of the stories will have multiple) whether to share the images as I complete them, or share each set as I complete a story. We’ll see, nothing’s set in stone.

Struwwelpeter, the final piece and some of the sketches from along the way. One of the fun things about doing a project outside of my usual wheelhouse is finding the visual language for it. I went through a few iterations before settling on what I ended up with.

I've always thought of doing my own take on the book. And now, I've decided to take it on! Starting, obviously, with the cover and title story, Struwwelpeter.

(2/3)That book was Der Struwwelpeter, written and illustrated by Heinrich Hoffman in 1845. I'm not sure how many of those lessons I really learned; I still ended up playing with matches, hated combing my hair, and never really cared for soup.

(1/3) When I was but a tiny Gary, my mother would read to me from an old German book. As is the norm with antiquated German children's stories, it was filled with tales of (mostly) misbehaving children suffering as a result of their misdeeds.
