An M1.1 flare peaked at 14h10 UT 15 Oct.

A 10cm radio burst was observed at 15h21 UT. A noise burst upto 10 GHz was observed on the Owens Valley Solar Array.

Radio conditions on HF are going to be noisy. There may be some disruption of GPS signals in some areas during geomagnetic storming.

Solar Flare Alert: The sun has really woken up this week! We have been getting some sizable Earth-directed flares since 11 Oct.

This morning: AR4246 fired an M4.8 flare peaking at 04h15 UT 15 Oct. AR4246 also launched an M3.7 flare which peaked at 07h18 UT 15 Oct.

I think the outage was mostly confined to Vodafone and a few mobile carriers.

Turns out it was a Vodafone issue which also affected a few mobile providers who use Vodafone to pipe their services. When I posted the message Down Detector was showing a spike in reports for many providers. I'm presuming you are not on Vodafone so we're ok.

An M3.2 flare peaked at 20h38 UT 14 Oct. An R2 radio blackout affected the eastern Pacific region. The flare again originated from AR4246.

Multiple CMEs (coronal mass ejections) from AR4246 are inbound to Earth. Geomagnetic storms are predicted between 15-17 Oct.

An M1.3 flare peaked at 13h18 UT 13 Oct. A type II radio emission was observed, indicating the potential for a CME being launched.

The flare originated from Earth-facing active region AR4246, which has been responsible for several flares during the last 24 hours.

Service outage

Vodafone in the UK and most major UK internet and mobile providers are currently suffering a major outage with broadband service. Basic mobile voice and text appears still to be working. I'm not yet aware how widely this outage has spread.

Increasing solar activity has increased noise on the HF bands. Conditions on HF are mostly "fair" at this time.

An M2.7 flare peaked at 09h19 UT from almost Earth-facing region AR4246. A minor R1 radio blackout affected eastern and southern Africa.

An M1.9 flare also erupted from AR4246 at 05h27 UT 13 Oct.

It's curious that I'm not hearing any FT8 from that direction tonight. Propagation is a fickle thing!
