A Decaying Democracy?

As executive power expands, Parliament weakens, and media rely on government funding, some fear Canada’s democracy is eroding. Are our institutions decaying under unchecked power and shrinking accountability?

Share your thoughts below.
Canada’s Parliament isn’t working— & that should worry every Canadian. Preston Manning, former Leader of the Opposition, says unelected officials are pulling the strings while taxpayers foot the bill. With a federal budget  set for Nov. 4th, Canadians may face increased debt. Is this a sinking ship?
Lee Harding warns that Canadians with traditional values are being branded as extremists. This smear campaign, echoing old propaganda, mislabels peaceful dissent as radicalism—eroding trust in institutions and undermining civil debate.
Banking Neutrality

In the U.S., banks are explicitly prohibited from cutting off financial services based on a customer’s political views. Canada does not have this safeguard.

Do you think Parliament should adopt similar rules? Let us know in the comments!

Every child matters, except when it comes to proof in Kamloops.

James McCrae, former attorney general of Manitoba, asks: If murdered women justify landfill digs in Winnipeg, why hasn’t Kamloops lifted a shovel for its alleged 215 child graves—despite $12 million and four years of national mourning?
European postal privatizations keep prices low—unlike Canada Post, where political control & union resistance block reform.

As suggested by Conrad Eder's recent OpEd, should Canada follow Europe’s lead & privatize Canada Post to modernize service and reduce interference?

Answer in the comments!
Senior Fellow Tom Flanagan argues media and government keep backing unmarked graves claims with little proof—no bodies, no documents, no data. Public doubt is rising, and Ottawa’s chequebook fuels the narrative.

➡️ Comment: What should Canada spend this lost revenue on?
It’s parents—not teachers—who are the key to student success.
Senior Fellow Michael Zwaagstra shares tips for how parents can:
✔️ Choose the right school
✔️ Set the tone for learning
✔️ Support teachers without overstepping
It starts before the school year even begins.

Debanking Is Ottawa’s Quiet Tool To Crush Dissent

Lee Harding exposes how Canadian banks quietly shut down accounts of dissenters like convoy lawyer Eva Chipiuk—no warnings, no appeals, no answers. Free speech now carries financial consequences.

Senior Fellow Gerry Bowler argues the Church thrives when countercultural. As society drifts from Christian morals, he sees history repeating; marginalization sharpens the Church’s influence and restores its relevance.

Carney pledged to fight Trump’s tariffs and build a stronger trade foundation.

Reality: As of August 1, non-compliant Canadian goods face a crushing 35% tariff.

We’re punished abroad, stalled at home, and losing $800 per second underselling energy.

💡 Pipeline bottlenecks cost Canadians $25.6 B yearly — that’s $800 every second.

We’re paying a real price for pipeline delays when smarter infrastructure could ensure fair value for our oil.

Research VP Marco Navarro-Genie argues Mark Carney’s push to recognize Palestine hands
Hamas a propaganda win, bypasses Parliament, and risks Canada’s trade leverage—all to stage a
political distraction from domestic failures.

Canada’s future depends on democratic allies, not autocrats. A Globe and Mail call for closer China ties ignores Beijing’s coercion, interference & authoritarian control. Aligning with it weakens, not strengthens, our independence. More: FCPP.org
Alberta’s identity has long been shaped by American immigration, and few figures capture this influence better than George Lane. Author John Whittaker tells the story of an Iowa-born rancher whose life shows how U.S. settlers helped define Alberta’s character.

Universities once valued open debate and rigor. Senior Fellow Philip Carl Salzman says many now push narrow ideologies, turning education into activism and sidelining critical thinking. Read more at: https://fcpp.org/2025/08/03/universities-have-traded-truth-for-ideology-and-marxism-is-winning
Is Canada Post beyond saving under its current model? With billions
in losses, mounting bailouts and political interference, Conrad Eder argues that only privatization can deliver the discipline,
innovation and accountability Canadians deserve.

Senior Fellow Brian Giesbrecht warns that Mark Carney’s immigration plans mirror Trudeau’s “open-door” approach, worsening housing and service strain. He urges adopting a border-focused, controlled model—like America’s—to protect Canada’s stability and restore pre-2015 immigration.
