Shouldn’t Roy’s apprentice and fervent Stan defender John Cimino know this? It’s revealing that he does not and merely reacts to another ScreenRant-esque excuse for news reporting without second guessing it. These are the guys maintaining a magazine purportedly about comic book “history“. Wow.
Roy Thomas even borrows from his fans, amazing! This guy should learn who he’s dealing with. There’s nothing written down that ol’ Rascally won’t feel entitled to
You can’t make it up: someone brought to my attention that Roy Thomas’s autobiography has been made available for pre-order. Amongst the comments in the Official Roy Thomas Appreciation Group comes this guy’s somewhat sheepish reminder that Roy is using HIS title, which he’s shared numerous times:
Some people thought I was being mean-spirited with this piece, when I was really trying to convey just how misguided and ill-informed many people are about the figures they profess to admire. But yeah, some baffling choices in these pieces…
While this article (from last year) is based around comments by Jenny Blake, the greater point is about selective rationalization and the very flawed “you weren’t in the room” defense amongst biased comic book consumers:
If Roy Thomas’s retroactive career makeover wasn’t enough to make you boycott Alter Ego, perhaps this will- a regular contributor is the extreme right wing journalist who is such a creep that Fox News fired him:
I know that you know that I know all of that already.
I didn’t push back because I could tell her information was hearsay, etc. and she didn’t seem hip to all the fan/press outcry. When Ferran or Daniel interview her, they can cover all of that to your satisfaction.

That’s every Roy Thomas anecdote. Also consider that when Marvel returned original art proofs of Kirby’s 70s Captain America pages, Thomas- who knew Kirby would see it- wrote “great art- lousy dialogue” on it.
Interesting aside from Susan Loeb who, as a 22 year old Marvel employee in the late 60/early 70s was asked to take a “writing test” by seeing how she’d ghost an installment of ‘Stan’s Soapbox’.
Perhaps it’s nothing but I found it interesting in spite of what we know today regarding… ghosts.
A reminder that Mark Evanier routinely makes things up, such is his image of himself as “The Source”. He banks on ppl being unaware of his prolific insults of JK (before he learned Kirby lived within driving distance) and on being unaware of his many falsehoods: fourcolorsinners.com/2023/10/28/t...
