This particular concept was developed for an architectural consultancy specializing in activities tied to architectural design, construction, products, specifications documentation, and consulting. Given the intended audience (i.e., architects), a conservative yet contemporary look was requested. The client also wanted an identity that would complement a domain they had registered (“EdgeDC”). To these ends, the word “EDGE” was created using bold, neo-industrial custom glyphs reminiscent of large industrial signage often seen atop factories in the early- to-mid-1900s. The text also features a transition between the “E” and “D” to create the impression of a negative-space slash, edge, and/or angled roof for an added sense of precision. An additional intention here was to feature the “E” as a function or variable and have the entire logo appear as a stylized mathematical quotient by extension. The minor wordmark (“design consulting”) appears in a finer, more distended font to both set it apart from its parent and allow the whole concept to breathe by of a less heavy/dense appearance. Finally, the “D” and “C” appear in the same blue to constitute/express an allegory of emphasis for the chosen domain name.
