The fact that these past two episodes were so good and payed off from all that build up and are so narratively satasfying just ends up making me so jaded and bitter knowing what will come is essentially the whole narrative being thrown in the trash and Kacchan getting spat in the face narratively.

Why have Kacchan go through all this development, why have them chase after each other, push each other, reflect the first and second user, what is all of this for when Kacchan ends up bringing Izuku's dream back just to get basically slapped with a "work together? Nah, never gonna happen".

Summary:

A coral mer is rescued from a poacher attack, and Izuku is ecstatic to become his handler. It’s her job to research him, and to help him save his endangered species.
The more time she spends with him, though, the more the glass between them cracks.

If you’re still reading after those warnings – welcome to High Tide, Reader! This is the most random AU of AUs to ever AU, and was vaguely inspired by some peaceful aquarium visits I made earlier this year. This story may likely end up in some dusty niche forgotten corner of AO3, and I’m perfectly okay with that – my policy is that if I enjoyed writing a fanfic, I might as well post it, and oh boy did I enjoy writing this story.
Story is almost fully drafted, other than a few missing scenes here and there that I already have planned out. I'll aim to update every 1(-2) weeks per my streak, editing as I go. I'm not a marine biologist in the slightest, so take all marine biology and aquarium designs as well-salted as the ocean, lol.

Summary:
Katsuki’s heart is beating so fast inside his chest that it might give out any minute now. He places his phone against his ear with a trembling hand, praying to a god he’s not sure he believes in that this isn’t what he thinks it is. “All Might? What is it? What the fuck is going on?”
“Young Bakugou, please try to keep calm,” All Might’s full-of-static voice says over the phone. “But I need you to meet me at the station as soon as possible.”
“Why? What’s happening?”
“It seems that, on the way out of your apartment earlier tonight, Young Midoriya has been… taken.”
“Taken? The fuck do you mean, taken? Taken where?”
“We don’t know, my boy,” All Might laments, voice shaky and nervous. “Young Midoriya is missing. No one knows where he is.”

After a fight at Katsuki's apartment has Izuku storming out alone, a cult of rich, quirkless people kidnap him. Their goal? Use Izuku’s genetics to try and recreate One For All, which they wish to bestow upon all quirkless people across the world.
