This is the truest thing ever written. We aim for some outward measure when it’s really all about how you live life on the daily.

I watched this on my flight home last night and really appreciated it. It's funny how some topics are so arbitrarily taboo and uncomfortable to talk about. Ultimately, our minds are shaped by our thoughts about our bodies. Spend some time with this film when you can.

I think that's my point, it can be helpful for Substack growth, but that limits how I use it. It feels constrained.

I like Notes, too. Still, I feel like I can only use it to share Substack links. Maybe it's just in my head. I'm still figuring it out. Does it make sense?

It's exciting to see so many photographers and artists migrating to Bluesky. Connecting with each other is the first hurdle — If you make pictures, please reply to this post or share it so more art folks see it. I hope we can create a virtuous circle and make it easier to find each other. Cheers!

Of course, the last exhibit I visited reminded me that I was in a state governed by some of the worst Republican actors in recent history. That didn't leave me feeling good on my way out. Still, time keeps moving, and we can impact the future if we participate. I find comfort in that. 🇺🇸

Things are not good in America right now, and in my opinion, there are some horrible people in power. But they aren't destined to succeed, and they won't last forever. Everything changes. There is some hope in that.

Yesterday, a short visit to the Arkansas State House Museum in Little Rock. I love visiting places like this because they remind us how history is made in America — for the most part, it's people sitting at desks, debating ideas, and making decisions. It's not folks arguing on social media.

He describes his camera as a compass, he continues, that “leads me to the people who I need to meet. My objective is to make sure that the history is preserved, to secure my legacy and, importantly, that of all the people who’ve stepped in front of my lens.”

It's true! Why is that? Cheap materials? Or something else?

I realized again yesterday how much time and attention we — I — waste on this stuff. It's a challenge finding signal in the noise.

This is an excellent piece, and I recommend everyone read it. I studied media in college and have been fascinated with it for most of my life. Of course, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

I've been on the road all week, and got home last night. The thing I was most looking forward to was sleeping in my own bed. There's something about hotel beds that never quite works for me. I think it's the pillows. Either way, it's good to be home. Simple joys, right?

"Digital media, empowered by the serum of algorithmic feeds, has become super-television: more images, more videos, more isolation. Home-alone time has surged as our devices have become more bottomless feeds of video content."

"When I say “everything is turning into television,” what I mean is that disparate forms of media and entertainment are converging on one thing: the continuous flow of episodic video."
