A lot of them also didnt leave Japan, like the racing-RPG Racing Lagoon, the shoot'em up Einhänder, etc. They were making a lot of experimental games back then

Threads of Fate (Dewprism) was released 26 years ago by Squaresoft. I've played it last year!

It's a small ARPG made mostly by the Xenogears team.
It's honestly not great, but it has some charm, especially the humour on Mint's side, and the excellent OST by Junya Nakano (FFX)

Random thoughts, I like how many games for the Nintendo DS used the "DS" acronym for their sub titles.

Felt like a smart way to reference the console without just calling it "Something DS".

Gorgeous pixel-art, interactive worldmap, multiple races with many jobs, 300 optional missions, laws system forcing you to plan each battle differently...

Did you play any Shining Force game? (Not saying they're better, I have yet to play those myself! But I often see SF2 and 3 talked as references of the genre so I'm interested)

Thanks for the answers, I went with the remake of Ys III since some people recommended it and it's apparently about 10 hours long, and I don't think I feel like starting another long RPG right now!

FF Tactics done ✅️

I will keep playing to try out some more jobs. Very good game (a bit inferior to Tactics Advance imo), sometimes grindy but the gameplay is quite addictive.

Story was aight albeit often predictable, not so subtle. Love the OST, even more with the context.

Played a lot of Final Fantasy Tactics this week and I'm currently in chapter 4.
Had to go through some of the famous difficulty spikes but still having fun experimenting with jobs and comps.

Good opportunity to say that before Mario & Luigi, AlphaDream made Tomato Adventure on GBA and it's super fun.

Turn-based combat with a lot of different "gimmicks" (pretty much mini-games), and a silly story. There's an english fan translation now.
I've finished it, I recommend!

They were one of the three studios making Streets of Rage 4 yes, alongside Dotemu, and Lizardcube. If you didn't check it out yet, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance from Lizardcube is also great^^

Another small french studio finding success this year, like Lizardcube with Shinobi: Art of Vengeance ; or Sloclap with Rematch.

Guard Crush Games worked on Streets of Rage 4 years ago, and now got to make their own game with Absolum.

Dotemu is also doing a great work as a publisher!
