i have always been extremely uncomfortable with costumes and makeup etc so when i was a girl i would take halloween as an opportunity to dress up as "boy". eventually figured out i could do that all the time

admiration is a different thing and it's good to feel it and acknowledge it but there is a point not very far down in "fandom" at which you lose the capacity to be critical towards them. it's also, and this is the part about arrogance, a little pathetic

it probably stems from a very deep rooted arrogance but something that has saved me from a lot of embarrassment and moral discomfort is i'm just not a fan. i hate the "fan" thing altogether. if i realize i'm becoming a "fan" of someone i just stop
