I assume that the ranking is based on statistics from the previous year, which would be 2024. The plunge should come next year.

I came across the same effect a while ago in relation with a corruption index. There the US stood among the to 30. Next year I expect the to fall int the bottom tier.

Bei so viel Brandlast brauche ich da an Schutz nicht denken; ich wäre vermutlich in meiner Wohnung immer noch sicherer.

Der Vermieter und die paar Nachbarn, mit denen ich darüber geredet habe, scheinen mich im wesentlichen für geisteskrank zu halten. Bestenfalls.

Das Dringlichkeitsproblem zieht sich durch die Gesellschaft hindurch.

In meiner Stadt gibt es keine Schutzräume. Die kommenden kommunalen Bauvorhaben sehen auch keine vor.

Ich würde gerne meinen Kellerabteil zum Schutzraum umbauen, aber die Abteile der Nachbarn sind alle prallvoll mit Gerümpel.

Der Koalitionsstreit um die Wehrpflicht sendet das falsche Signal nach Moskau: "Wir haben ein Dringlichkeitsproblem mit Blick auf Verteidigungsfähigkeit. Wenn das immer weiter verschoben und mit schlechten Lösungen behandelt wird, sind wir verwundbarer."

My opinion will sound heretic to many, but I don't find this cute at all.

I'm for Ukraine. People in Charkiv need uplifting content. Wild animals have something romantic about them. Yes.

But what I see is a predator made to kill other mamals. Outside a cage, I wouldn't get near it without a rifle.

Ich will/kann die Beweggründe einzelner Akteure nicht durchschauen, aber der russische Informationskrieg setzt ja auch darauf, dass einzelne Akteure den Informationsraum ihres jeweiligen Landes zumüllen. Ob sie das aus Eitelkeit, Gier oder direkt im Auftrag machen, sei dahingestellt.

Gleiches gilt für den dünnen Bereich des Rumpfes, kurz vor dem Höhenleitwerk. IIRC haben deutsche Jagdflieger da gerne „draufgehalten“ weil dadurch ein Auseinanderbrechen der Maschine herbeigeführt werden kann. Ist genauso tödlich (oder sogar mehr?), wie Treffer auf die Besatzung oder die Motoren

Tragflächen bepunktet. Das Cockpit hat wenig/nichts.

Zum Schutz der sonstigen Flugfähigkeit würde ich redundante Steuerungssysteme einsetzen, und die Tragflächen so auslegen, dass sie auch mit vielen Löchern Auftrieb haben. Gleiches für die tragenden Elemente unter der Haut.

Auf Anhieb würde ich schauen, wie das bei der B-17 oder der Halifax gemacht wurde. Sonst würde ich vor allem möglichst kompakt die Besatzungsmitglieder schützen. Ein Flugzeug allzu freigiebig zu panzern sorgt sonst i.d.R. dazu, dass es nicht mehr fliegt.

Ich wünsche mir von Ordnungs- und Strafverfolgungsbehörden, dass sie mit diesem Menschen eine Sprache sprechen, die er versteht. Alles innerhalb des bestehenden Rechts, und auch verhältnismäßig. Aber deutlich.

Wenn er so demonstrativ aufs „Recht des Stärkeren“ setzt, sollte der Staat stärker sein.

When the US left indulges in violence, it is mostly smashed storefronts and burning trash cans. I am very much against this myself, but it's a far cry from what the right – including the goons cosplaying as "law enforcement" – does to migrants, protesters, journalists, clergymen, and now EMTs.

This said, trying out such methods in plain view of those who threw the burning thing in the first place, and don't want you to extinguish it, is a much more complicated matter. And protestors won't have chance of prepositioning tons of sand in buckets ahead of clashes.

During WWII here in Germany civil protection would cover thermite incendiary bomblets with sand (prepositioned in buckets). AFAIK it worked to a degree, but the sheer numbers would overwhelm the rescuers, and then the Brits started adding small explosive payloads to keep firefighters at bay.
