Religion in the old Japanese military is a topic, which interested me a lot.
Yet for all the abundance of works about bushido, etc. I have found exactly zero works on this topic ☹️
Shrine on board the Zuikaku.
LMG consumed in a minute 10-15 times more ammunition then rifle. Guys had to bring more and more ammo from the rear.
Saito Makoto wearing order of the Bath, so its after 19 June 1906.
Yamamoto wearing Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George so its after 21 September 1907.
But officer of the photo looks very like Vice-Admiral Sir Hedworth Meux, Commander-in-Chief, China in 1908-10.
So it seems I was wrong and this photo is made during 1908-10 period.

In 1906, a British naval squadron from the China Squadron visited Japan, led by Vice Admiral Moor.
But British admiral on photo definitely not Moore:

Wow! I never thought Satsuma dialect is so different from standard Japanese.

Unknown is British Admiral, awarded Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath.
Nice colors of the Autumn. Thank you.
Indeed, new tank will be better for Italians. And production of Semoventi hindered its entrance into service.

But let's return to my actual point: Semoventi couldn't serve in the armored regiments why?
Before 1939 every infantry division was to receive second (heavy) artillery regiment, and so on. But the reality intervened...
And what does it have with the topic we are discussing? In most countries of the world infantry support tanks belonged to tank arm.
Of course it won't fit. So new turret will be necessary.
That's true. BUT it has nothing to do with the timeline. Decision to adopt StuGs was made way before new guns appeared and Wehrmacht went to defensive.
This haven't stopped them from having infantry support units before 1939.
1939 Panzer doctrine prescribed BOTH independent tank divisions and infantry support brigades/regiments.
Indeed, that's an advantage.
They had 4th Panzer Brigade (PzR 7, 8), ind. PzR 10, 15, 23 for infantry support. More units were to be formed, but making tank units for light divisions took priority.
In Italian army ALL tank units were part of Infantry arm and were created for infantry support.
They wanted to support infantry before 1939 but not after?
BTW, do you know which arm all Italian tank regiments belonged? - SPOILER: Infantry.
That's exactly my point: why German and Italian armies were unable to find tanks for infantry support after 1939? They had infantry support tank units before.
Maybe. But why those assault guns for infantry support can't be part of tank troops?
My point exactly: why both Italian and German tanks were ONLY in tank divisions? What's happened in 1939 to block infantry access to tank support?
They were cheaper, but not that much.
If we compare StuG III Ausf. A and PzKw III Ausf. N which had same short 75mm gun, price should be c.78000 vs. 105000.
No turret StuG was simpler to produce, but turret offered many benefits.
Cool photo.
But Stug was part of the artillery arm while IGs were part of infantry. I have no objections against armored infantry guns in armored/motorized infantry. But creating entirely new artillery branch to do the job of tanks looks strange to me.
