JOINT STATEMENT: Ontario’s Education Unions United Against Bill 33
Bill 33 “is a regressive piece of legislation that does nothing to support students and everything to consolidate power in the hands of the Minister of Education.”
In 1929, white women gained legal recognition as “persons” in Canada, excluded were Black, Racialized and Indigenous women. We remember that rights are never handed to us equally. We recommit to fighting systemic barriers so all persons can live with dignity. #PersonsDay#PETL#ETFO#OntEd#OnLab
In Peel, 1 in 10 children live in poverty, it keeps rising as housing prices rise, and wages stagnate. Families struggle while corporations profit and public services are cut. We need decent wages, affordable housing, and fully funded schools.#EndPoverty #PETL#ETFO#OntEd#OnLab
Very pleased & grateful to welcome Andrea Vásquez Jiménez from Policing-Free Schools to our monthly PETL Executive meeting today to discuss #NoToBill33, #PolicingFreeSchools, the direct connections to a fully funded public education system, & how we must push for better. #ETFO#OnLab
Girls are leading, questioning and imagining better futures. They’re also navigating the barriers of underfunded schools. On Intl Day of the Girl, we celebrate their strength and an end to decisions that limit their potential.#DayOfTheGirl #PETL#ETFO#FundOurFuture#OntEd#OnLab
Educators deserve a break. 💚 #PETL’s Wellness Marketplace is coming soon — a space to reclaim rest, care & community for educators. Know a wellness-focused vendor or member with skills to share? Fill out our form & spread the word. #MemberWellness#ETFO#OntEd#OnLab
Mental health is a right. We must invest in mental health resources, safer schools, and workplaces where well-being is prioritized. Because caring for our communities means caring for the people who work in them. #WorldMentalHealthDay#PETL#ETFO#FundOurFuture#OntEd#OnLab
Today we echo workers everywhere to say: enough cuts. We need fully funded public services, and workplaces that value people over profits. Decent work is not negotiable; it’s the foundation of justice and dignity for all. #WorldDayForDecentWork#PETL#ETFO#FundOurFuture#OntEd#OnLab
On World Teachers’ Day we celebrate Peel teachers — and demand more. Ontario’s kids deserve smaller classes, more supports, and fully funded public schools. Stop the cuts. Invest in education. #WorldTeachersDay#PETL#ETFO#FundOurFuture#OntEd#OnLab
As educators on colonized land, we mark the National Day of Action for MMIWG2S by remembering lives stolen and murdered. We recommit to teaching truth & standing for justice. #SistersInSpirit#PETL#ETFO#OntEd#OnLab
ETFO President Dave Mastin: Today “we celebrate [teachers’] impact & reaffirm our commitment to ensuring they have the resources & supports they need to help every student.”
October is an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the contributions of those who follow the Islamic faith. Let us grow in our understanding, honour their rich history and continue to stand against all forms of discrimination. #ETFO#OntEd#OnLab
Women’s History month is a time to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions of women and girls from our past and our present. Let's reflect on the work still ahead to remove barriers and continue the fight for women’s equality as a powerful social movement. #ETFO#OntEd#OnLab
Today is the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. Justice Sinclair told us that reconciliation isn’t a spectator sport. It calls us to act. “You’re already involved, whether you like it or not.” Let’s ask ourselves: ‘Are we on the field or on the bench?’ #ETFO#OntEd#OnLab
2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the federal govt’s Truth & Reconciliation Commission Report. The only way forward is through committing to 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.
What are you doing in & outside your classroom to work towards Truth & Reconciliation? #ETFO#OntEd#OnLab

On #InternationalLiteracyDay we affirm that literacy is a 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, not a privilege. Cuts to public education deny students this right. We fight for fully funded schools so every child can read, write, learn & thrive. #LiteracyDay#ETFO#OntEd#OnLab
