The thing that continually comes up in these sort of discussions is the Right’s conflation of fact and opinion.

Whether or not anyone might feel Coates promotes hate—and I’m sure there are plenty of people who do—he clearly does not.

Kirk DID promote hate.

Those are just facts. Not opinion.

White supremacist idiot Helen Andrew’s says: “the problem with [Ta-Nahisi] Coates is that he never turns his critical eye inward. Ezra should have said, “so you think Charlie Kirk promoted hate. Have you considered that some people might feel exactly the same way about you?’ “

Then in further self-aggrandizing waffle that k suspect she thinks makes her insightful, she goes onto say: “one punch I pulled in my review of his last book—which, let’s be honest, got me in enough trouble as it was—was a section I cut trying to get him to stop thinking about white people’s complicity in violence for a minute and start thinking about his own.”

Which just sounds like “I know you are but what am I” schoolyard logic, which is about par for the course with fascist apologists.

On the eve of a government shutdown, considering how ridiculous the federal government has been, mostly wasting taxpayer money on ICE and Nazi rallies disguised as memorial services, this seems like a good opportunity for state governments to step up.
