@harrysaddler.bsky.social just told me this post is “all the things you like! Electoral politics and Footrot Flats!”
Back when Aotearoa New Zealand was voting via referendum on whether or not to ditch First Past the Post for Mixed Member Proportional for our voting system, the cartoonist Murray Ball put out the below comic.

I see those telling New Yorkers not to vote for Zohran Mamdani and think on this comic.
love to see folks spin “didn’t seem to want to talk to me, personally” into “aloof”
[the NY Post scrambling to make a last-ditch scandal:]

"umm, uhhh, his aloof wife Rama Duwaji secretly ran the campaign"
it’s *absolutely* too expensive for a pen and also arguably for many other things
@damonyoung.com.au I feel like you must know about this already but on the slightest chance you haven’t been sent this seventy times…
also, sorry for Stallone-posting but we followed up Sinners with Creed (which I had never seen) so I accidentally reminded myself of this
idk you guys I feel like the guy who was nominated for an Academy Award for screenwriting could have helped them out with some copy here
The design was cultivated by the works of 16thC artists including Battista Franco, Dürer, Hans Sebald Beham and Pollaiolo to create Mr. Stallone’s idea of Chaos; a sense of the Renaissance, when things were more simplified and perhaps more noble, placed against our current technological society.
Drawing inspiration for the theme and design of his signature pen from his wildly-successful film, The Expendables, Mr. Stallone turned to classical art and worked with Montegrappa’s artisans to create the "Chaos" pen.
just saw my first and second Sacred Kingfishers in the wild! so exciting!
Herbie Hancock was way out in front on the Fairlight CMI… Austtalia owes him this time 🫡
just saw Herbie Hancock at the Strathmore. played almost exclusively progressive jazz, went ~1 hour over time, much of the overage stemming from a nearly 40m lecture on evolution, compassion, & futurism done entirely via vocoder, and saved almost all the accessible fusion for post-lecture. the GOAT!

parenting is mainly about trying to sell your kids on outright lies like “eating Nerds before breakfast is a bad idea, buddy”
door-knocking with Wallace Shawn… the dream volunteer gig
now getting ads for baby lambs and off grid retreats hmmm
having a ”drunk girls hyping each other up in the bathroom at the club“ moment but it’s me and another older woman in the toilet queue at CERES comparing notes on our 2026 tomato crops

don’t come for me Crowded House fans, I have three different 7inch vinyls of ‘Weather with you’ but even I know you could have picked at least twenty better songs from their discography, notwithstanding the set up for the confrontation with Lamb later
Claude Whelan should have been sacked for putting ’Fall at your feet’ on his running playlist imo #slowhorses #crowdedhouse

It’s a big day for fans of baseball, or as the rest of the world calls it, “American Cricket”
earlier this week a FB memory popped up of HRC confirming her commitment to RoeVWade and I remember some commentators observing at the time that it was unseemly to try and win brownie points off the back of a settled debate on ab*rtion.
on BtB this week, they observed that it feels weird to be going to birthday parties and working hard and worrying about paying rent when the US is in the grips of catastrophe. That tipping point just hit me I think.
when I was too young for it, I read ‘Children of the Dust’ repeatedly and at one point refused to visit my grandmother’s house because capital cities are more likely targets. This news induces so much panic in me.

Writing from Marine One, Trump instructed the Pentagon to resume nuclear testing after a 33-year pause, citing other nations' own capabilities.

The directive took even many of Trump’s advisers off guard, according to officials, leading to unanswered questions about when, or if, testing would begin.
Trump said the US would begin testing nukes. It caught even some advisers by surprise. | CNN Politics
