In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

We regret to inform you that the Nobel Peace Prize is antifa.
Any suggestions for where/how I can get those news updates each day?

Get really into dinosaurs. That's my recommendation for a happier life. Each day, I get news like "Look at this big freak that used roam the Earth!" or "Ya know the big freak you already loved? Fossils show it was even more freakish!" and it's a blessing every time.

If they had the capacity to do this, it would be really bad. And they probably will try to do a couple of high profile examples to make you think they *do* have the capacity. But like a lot of stuff, this is a memo designed to get you to voluntarily stop doing stuff they don’t like.

Speaking of voices under attack…can we be just as loud about Black journalists and comedians who are silenced, even by our so-called liberal outlets.

Yeaahhhh I decided* it was a good decision to change meds during the first month of my internship

(*my doctor strongly recommended, and she was correct, but boy did it suck for two weeks)

Charlie Kirk called me a ‘lunatic’ and a ‘prostitute’ and demanded I be deported.

Nothing, *nothing*, justifies killing him, or robbing his kids of their dad.

We don’t know the identity or motive of the shooter but murder can *never* be the response to political disagreements.

Corrupting economic statistics will change our economic reality. Here's how:

Tariffs raise prices. Social Security is indexed to inflation. If Trump tells a partisan BLS head to downplay inflation, seniors' social security checks won't keep up.

Rigged stats = stolen benefits.

I hate it when weak-minded media such as the Washington Post say that DC crime is dramatically down but "many residents still do not feel safe." They're talking about an *information problem* more than a crime problem. Right-wing propagandists don't want anyone to feel safe.

Crime rates in all three cities have gone down, and in Baltimore at astounding levels, in part by treating crime as a public health crisis, rather than a "need more cops" crisis. popular.info/p/the-secret...
This is heartbreaking, both as a someone who directly benefited from NIH research and as someone who served at the Clinical Center as a chaplain during 2023.
The number of people receiving treatment at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center — which cares for patients with rare or life-threatening diseases — has tumbled under the second Trump administration. Patient Numbers at NIH Hospital Have Plummeted Under Trump, Jeopardizing Care - KFF Health News
The renowned research hospital that cares for people with rare or life-threatening diseases has been pummeled by an employee exodus and the gutting of research, both driven by the Trump administration...

The God I serve is ENTIRELY unconcerned about what we do or do not "deserve" (and less about what we think we/others deserve). God is concerned with abundance for ALL, with justice and mercy *in spite of* what we deserve. Some Christians would do well to remember this most basic tenet of the faith.

When Medicaid gets cut, families pay the price.

This story from @usatoday.com shows what’s at stake for parents caring for children with disabilities—loss of therapy, home-based care, and the ability to keep their kids at home.
They don't need Medicaid. But their kids do.
"If we get to a place where we're no longer eligible, I can start a timer on how much longer Emma will be alive," Stacy Staggs said.

I'm prepping for my sermon Sunday and one of the commentaries noted (paraphrased) that PEOPLE seem super concerned with fairness but in this Luke 12 text, Jesus doesn't. That just hit me anew reading this headline. What is "fair," really? Are we making "fairness" an idol?
Buttigieg said parents have legitimate concerns.

To be clear: If you cannot be relied on to unequivocally defend transgender kids, you can’t be relied on to defend anyone or anything.

Kind of amazing how of all the unpopular initiatives in the Trump administration (cuts to Medicaid, ICE raids, THE TARIFFS), he got Biden'd on the Epstein stuff.

A reminder that the Fox News Cinematic Universe only focuses on black officials when they can tear them down.

They used to mock Baltimore's Brandon Scott as a "DEI mayor" but now that homicide rates have plummeted they're just pretending he doesn't exist.
For everyone who has ever asked, on seeing my Baltimore homicide charts, "How did they do that?"

Happy Shark Awareness Day!

I want people to be aware of 5 things:

1 Sharks are awesome

2 Sharks are not a threat to your safety

3 Sharks are ecologically important

4 Sharks are highly threatened

5 We can still save them- but it matters what we do, don’t reinvent the wheel, follow experts!
