She is unfailingly graceful but I don't think she has much interest in the political performance of being a "first lady." I mean "distant" in the sense that the world doesn't interest her greatly and she has the strength to be herself at the center of all this attention. That's rare in a 28yo!

I think it's interesting that she seems slightly disengaged from this crazy world her husband has taken on. Distant but ungrudging. She seems to have a rare degree of self-possession. It's probably good for her not to be overawed by power.

Donald Trump's health crisis is so serious that he's having monthly infusions of something potent enough that he isn't seen in public for days after treatment, but our democratic accountability is so badly broken none of us are allowed to know what is happening.

The US is a thoroughly white supremacist country, and any white liberal who speaks against it is treated as a race traitor, or simply a traitor.

Our "value-neutral" press treats this framework as a given and plays up the "radicalism" of anyone who challenges it. Without being aware of the problem.
