"KNOW YOUR PROTEST RIGHTS

Sens. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) are keeping the momentum going for their bill, and this they week secured the magic 60-cosponsor threshold for their proposal. (Read the bill text in The Portal.)

The Senate usually wants the final say on the language of whatever legislation passes Congress. A filibuster-proof majority has long been a way for senators to show their House colleagues what can clear the chamber.

“Establishing a ‘duty of care’ through the Kids Online Safety Act is essential to protecting our kids and giving parents peace of mind,” Blackburn said in a statement.

We’ll note one conspicuous absence from the KOSA cosponsor list: Senate Commerce Committee Chair Ted Cruz (R-Texas). Cruz clearly doesn’t want to commit to a particular approach to better position himself for dealmaking with the House down the road.
