I always come away from a trip to Spain, in mild shock at all the hugging and cheek kissing that goes on in the course of an ordinary day in Valencia - far more friendliness than I have experienced in Vermont in 25 years, where "cold" isn't primarily a descriptor for Winter weather.

Dude! - bon dia!
we did a drive to Holyoke Mass today,
from the woods in Vermontia and back,
stopped to visit with Ricardo and have a minute of show and tell.
We slowed to watch a huge black fisher bird of some kind, circling.
Brilliant skies, pleasant drivers, & no active speed traps - priceless.

- we have a small chalkboard on the porch for visitors to write a note on if we aren't in
- one day, I walked outside to find a young girl of about 10 or so, who was writing on it. She had picked some flowers and was asking for a bag for them, she thought it was an iPad

The waiter said that he (the waiter) needed help to work the window (double paned an probably painted shut anyway), so I managed to catch him (the Dragonfly) in a water glass, covered it with a napkin, and walked him

1) We met up yesterday for lunch at the new location of the Putney Diner, now set in a grand old home, the main rooms have been renovated in a way that reveals the huge timbers revealed by removing the old ceiling, while leaving many original details delightfully intact - it's a wonderful space ...
