Still reeling from the revelation that the Government Minister used the foreword for the licensing review report to say alcohol outlets sell happiness. Stunningly irresponsible.
Just in case you were in any doubt as to the alcohol industry’s motives…just like big tobacco.

This is a pretty damning report. While the research was carried out in Scotland, I suspect England and Wales would have the same problems, yet the government there wants to rip up licensing regulations as apparently licensed premises “sell happiness” to quote the minister 🧐

There is a disproportionately high number of people with Alcohol Use Disorder in prison. If more action was taken to address this earlier on in the justice system journey, fewer people would end up in prison.

We've set out a clear way that this could be done: bit.ly/3LgtmKM

Scary stats…of the homicides in Scotland where status is known only 11% of accused were alcohol or drug free. Half of ppl accused were under the influence of alcohol. I wonder if Scot Gov might consider measures that would reduce alcohol harms, thus reducing homicides??
This Bill seems like a good idea until you unpick it a bit and realise most people with alcohol use disorder are excluded.
Douglas Ross's Right to Recovery Bill will have its stage 1 vote this week. But the well-intended legislation, which would give those with an "addiction" or "dependency" on alcohol or drugs a right to treatment, could exacerbate Scotland's drug death crisis.

It’s so disappointing that the First Minister has fallen for the Scotch Whisky Association’s arguments on duty. Not only that but it’s completely inconsistent with minimum unit pricing which his own government introduced. The SWA really are the best lobbyists. www.heraldscotland.com/news/2546438...
