I made a starter pack for KS5 maths (teachers, posters, and other people involved in it)
Most of the starter packs I've seen for maths teachers have been for all age groups, so this one is aimed towards sixth form (16-19 ish)
Please let me know if you'd like adding (or removing)!

Just ordered one on click and collect from Argos 🙌 I've been hitting the snooze button hard recently... 😴

I mean, I've got A Level English (Literature)... are people supposed to write an essay about Frankenstein and Henry V to work here? Or does she mean A Level English as an additional language (which isn't a thing)?

...how to do it afterwards. It is particularly useful to then get the homework out that they have just handed in and say "ok, so you could do it here, but are now unable to answer the same question only a short time later... why do you think it hasn't stuck in your memory?"
(This is for A Level...)

...homework check, where a question from the homework is chosen at random and displayed on the board, and students have to answer it again. If they have understood it in the homework, they have no issue replicating it in a few minutes, but if they've copied the answer they usually can't remember...

I haven't particularly noticed an issue with AI, but our students do a lot of maths homework which they mark themselves, and we find some are just copying the mark scheme if they can't do it, rather than finding more resilient methods (eg looking things up, asking friends for help) We do a weekly...

The secondary school I used to teach in had a quad, with assorted livestock (chickens/sheep) and a polytunnel where the students learned about growing things.
Sometimes you'd arrive at your classroom to find that a chicken had got inside, and have to spend the next 20 minutes chasing it back out...

Rather than "Why are maths teachers not doing their subject recreationally?", a better question might be "Why do some subjects lend themselves better to hobbies than others?" Maybe because reading a book, going for a run or visiting a museum is quite good for switching off in a way that maths isn't.

I've also just got back from a run, but I'm not a PE teacher 🏃‍♀️

I'm a maths teacher, but I also read a lot and visit museums in my spare time. They're just hobbies, not really linked to whether you teach them...

Do all vampires need inviting in (in all fictional works)? There are some characteristics that are specific to just some works, like the ones in Twilight sparkle, or the ones in The Vampire Diaries have special rings so they can go out in the sun...

Oh, mine's a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reference, they definitely haven't seen that 🤣

Some of my #ALevelMaths classes are still queuing up outside my classroom, even though I repeatedly tell them to go in if I'm not there (the corridors get quite busy, otherwise)

I've now taken to shouting "YOU ARE NOT VAMPIRES! YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE INVITED IN!" down the corridor 😅🧛‍♂️🧛‍♀️

In #MathsToday I'm wondering whether to work through the Senior Maths Challenge paper that 199 of my students sat today, or have a go at the first Cipher Challenge ready for tomorrow's lunchtime session. What a busy time for those of us who get to teach maths nerds for a living 🤓🥰😆

I think it makes sense to introduce it all in year 1, as it's not really any extra effort to mention it

It's brilliant, but there are no answers. We've asked for them many times, but apparently they have no intention of producing any 🙄😅

Do you have the AQA teaching guidance? I'm not sure if it's on the main website, but it has loads of examples of what is tested for each topic, at AS and at A Level: wykecollege-my.sharepoint.com/:b:/g/person...

Yes. Just (x + a) at AS level, (ax + b) at A Level

I love this 😍 Is there a printable version somewhere that I can use, please?

Anthony Scaramucci defines political careers in a similar way... one Scaramucci is about 11 days (the length of time he lasted as Trump's director of comms) 😆

What's purple, commutes, and is worshipped by a small number of people?

A finitely venerated abelian grape.

Funnily enough, a colleague sent me this exact video yesterday! (I watched the first bit, I should find some time to watch the rest...)

Ahh, I understand, thanks! 😊
