ICYMI: California has signed AB 1167 — stopping monopoly utilities from making customers pay for their political lobbying.

Great to see California take necessary steps to put a stop to this unethical activity that's causing utility bills to go up.

SIGNED! 🥳🥳🥳💪💪💪

A massive victory for holding monopoly utilities accountable to their customers, and for lowering Californian utility bills.

Thank you to @governor.ca.gov, @asmmarcberman.bsky.social, @senmcnerney.bsky.social, @earthjustice.org, The Utility Reform Network for all your leadership!

A bill is sitting on @GavinNewsom’s desk that would lower Californians’ utility bills – all he has to do is sign it. But rumors are swirling that he plans to do the opposite - a move that could prove disastrous for California and for Newsom. A 🧵:

California just banned employers from forcing workers to pay a debt, fee, or penalty to leave their job.

Bosses have increasingly been trapping workers with debts incurred in training and other exploitative fees.

Now that's illegal in the nation's biggest state.

California's historic step to protect workers by banning TRAPs should be replicated in every state.

Last June, we released a brief outlining how states can take on unethical TRAPs and other impediments to work mobility👇

TRAPs are being BANNED in California following @CAgovernor's signing of AB 692!

This monumental bill will ban employer-driven debt agreements — marking a major win for workers in the state!

The government shutdown is leading to shortages of air traffic controllers.

"You're either being furloughed or you being told to come to work and you're not getting paid. How are people supposed to pay their rent... their mortgage?" asks @wjm-air.bsky.social on @cnn.com.

"Left unchecked, this trend will replicate the worst outcomes of medical sector-consolidation: higher costs, lower quality... and the erosion of independent professional practice."

"We have been understaffed, underfunded, and underequipped at the FAA, particularly in the air traffic control sector, for decades."

@wjm-air.bsky.social joined @cnn.com last night to discuss the shutdown's impact on air travel — and the decades long issues plaguing the FAA.

🚨ALGORITHMIC PRICE-FIXING BANNED IN CA!

This bill is a nation-leading effort to bring CA antitrust law into the digital era — and plainly states that rigging markets via code is no different than rigging markets in a smoky back room.

AB 325 modernizes California’s antitrust laws to address algorithmic price fixing, closing loopholes that corporations have exploited to drive up the cost of living for Californians.

CA just banned price fixing via algorithm across the economy!

As corporations weaponize this technology to rip off consumers and hurt competition it's great to see @governor.ca.gov sign AB 325 to stop this practice!

Here's our own Lee Hepner testifying in support of the bill earlier this year👇

🚨HUGE win to strengthen antitrust law in CA last night🚨

The Governor just signed Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry's AB 325, an economy-wide ban on price-fixing algorithms, into law!

A great example of a state policymakers stepping up to protect their communities from predatory practices. 👏

Bailouts aren't sufficient. To help our farmers, we must enforce antitrust laws.

"We have got to start enforcing antitrust laws... Because without competition, we don't have a free market," says farmer Adam Chappell.

"[Radical transformation] happens at moments like this, when we say, 'monopoly is wrong and we need our lawmakers at a state level, at a municipal level, at a federal level to actually take action."

As passenger protections get tossed out, @wjm-air.bsky.social, at our Summit last week, broke down how the Trump admin is checking off big airline lobbyists' wish list.

"They basically asked that the DOT virtually get rid of every single passenger protection we have... for airlines.”
