I can't play horror games alone for the same reason; I get too immersed. I've solved the problem by playing with a friend or a few and taking turns controlling the character. I haven't played RE7 or the newer ones though, and wonder if I'm even able to... 😱
The horror games I keep going back to are Silent Hill 1 & 2 (PSX). They're clunky, but there's just something... I also remember having fun times with Forbidden Siren 2 (PS2), but it might be the nostalgia. The Resident Evil series is also a favorite, despite being sometimes more action than horror.
