This is "The Boatyard" by John Cooper from 1935. I'd love to know where it might have been painted but, to date, all efforts to locate the spot have evaded me. At the time, Cooper was painting in Lyme Regis & Charmouth so I think that it must be along the Dorset coast. #JohnCooper #EastLondonGroup

I'm not usually a fan of still life work but this one of "Flower Piece", also by Brynhild Parker (from 1934) is an exception to that "rule": I hope you'll like it too.

This is "St Matthew's Church" by Albert Turpin from his post-war work, most likely in the early to mid 1950s prior to the church being rebuilt after it suffered bomb damage during WW2. One can see in the painting that the windows have been blown out. #AlbertTurpin #EastLondonGroup

This was sold recently as "Wharfedale Farm" by John Cooper which is undated but might very possibly his exhibited painting of "Farm" from the Group's fifth show at Lefevre in November/December 1933. #JohnCooper #Wharfedale #Yorkshire #EastLondonGroup

This is one of my favourite paintings by Elwin Hawthorne: "Wick Lane" from 1930. It was once owned by Sir David Scott & it was sold @Sothebys in November 2008. I have included Elwin's painting notes for interest. #ElwinHawthorne #EastLondonGroup

With Autumn now seemingly upon us, I thought that this one of "Essex Landscape, Early Morning" by Walter Steggles from 1938 might be appropriate. The rising mist is just the sort of thing that one might see at this time of year. In the background one can see the Chappel Viaduct. #WalterSteggles

2/2 the Labour MP for Bethnal Green: North East in 1936 & Albert Turpin went on to become the Labour Mayor of Bethnal Green in 1946 so I can only imagine that the newspaper was quoting something which Dan Chater MP had said at a public meeting or something similar: who knows?

With named storm Amy #StormAmy in the news this morning, maybe this one of "Windy Day on Marine Parade, Southend" by Brynhild Parker from 1930 might be appropriate. It is in the collection at the Beecroft Gallery in Southend. Originally exhibited as just "Southend", the modified title is perfect.

This is "The Church at Cranham" by Lilian Leahy from 1934. Lilian married Elwin Hawthorne in 1937 & usually exhibited one or two paintings each year throughout their eight year exhibiting career. #LilianLeahy #EastLondonGroup

This is "The Mill" by Phyllis Bray from 1933. It was painted in Chalford in Gloucestershire & it is a view of a section of the Thames & Severn Canal near Ballinger's Lock. Sadly, shortly before this was painted, the canal between Chalford & Inglesham was abandoned in 1927 & the remainder in 1933

Thank you, Fiontan @fiontanfleming.bsky.social How interesting that you were brought up on a farm in Sussex. Amongst the Group members, serval of them painted in Sussex so here's "Sussex Farm" by Cecil Osborne from c.1935. I have often tried to identify the location of the farm but without success.
