Oh I’m so glad! ❤️ Me too! I haven’t drawn with this much regularity since high school, so it’s fun to remember how much I used to do it, and that I enjoyed it very much.

Here is Oct 13

Whaaaaaat? As a former Oakland resident, I think I need to read this.

Also: I miss the BART 😢

This weekend I got around to reading Healy's history of the BART system. Now that SB63 passed and the regional funding measure is before us, it's motivating to read about the past critical moments when Bay Area transit *almost didn't happen*

Hey @colorado.gov! My undergrad students can help! Also, why not take your enthusiasm further and help promote and fund more Spanish instruction at all levels all over the state.

POV: You only have 119 days to brush up on your Spanish so you can sing along to all the Bad Bunny songs at the Super Bowl halftime show!

My semester starts the Monday right when the AHA ends. It was already tight, but now with this…

I’m worried about ICE too. I think we’re all gonna have to made some hard choices. It sucks.

I missed three days, so here they are!
Oct 6, Oct 7, Oct 8

🗃️
Natalie’s line drawings for the three days she missed. One is a rockabilly style heart with a ribbon around it, with “w.t.f.” on the ribbon. Another is a fantail goldfish. The third is a woman with her eyes closed and her left hand holding her right arm, with long hair flowing around her.

Here are the slides I used:

🗃️ Two slides I use for this activity: The first is before they get started and the second is for our debrief conversation.
Slide with instructions, activity completed as a group:

Choose two paragraphs from the reading and decide where you think citations are needed, from what kind of source (primary or secondary) and why:

Is it background information/general context? Information that sets the stage (like “Star Wars” context Andrews and Burke described)

Is it evidence? Does it seem to come from a primary source?

Is it information that contextualizes specific evidence? Information that helps enhance analysis of the evidence (the other kind of context Andrews and Burke described)

Mark an X where you think there should be a footnote.

Can be one or two or all three of these reasons.

Underline words or phrases that capture the reason.

Slide with instructions for debriefing activity:

Did you identify the correct locations? Talk through the reason(s) why there is or isn’t a footnote where you thought it would be.

Is it background information/general context?

Is it evidence?

Is it information that contextualizes specific evidence?

Is it the author’s voice? Is this where the author is explaining their reasoning/analysis/interpretation?

I did this with my methods class in the spring, it was great! I used one of my chapters. I can share!

🗃️ Check out this incredible resource for engaging students in public history through National Parks! It’s designed for K-12 (three pathways), but could easily be adapted for higher education (I’m looking at the “junior historiographer” pathway!).

@skpawlicki.bsky.social was, until the Trump administration canceled the program, working as a Mellon fellow for the National Parks Service. She created the most incredible women's history programming, and now, she's recreated it entirely separately: storymaps.arcgis.com/collections/...
